This is the only story I know...

Yeah, it's also the title of my journal. It feels apropos.

It was pointed out to me that I haven't updated in a while. It's been kind of a crazy month. Since I can't remember what all I've said or haven't said, I'll just recap for the year.

One of the big news items is kitties. Demon passed away in January. After a little bit of grieving, we noticed that Merry was lonely and clingy. So, we went to get new kittens. We adopted a pair, and renamed them Vapor and Sprite (from their original names of Barbie and Ivory). They are sweet, cute, and very active. They're about 8 months old, so I've officially put their birthday as 06/06/06, so I can remember it. I'm not sure how Merry's taking to suddenly being the older cat, but he seems ok. We've had some health issues, mostly with a stubborn cold that's being swapped between them. But, all in all, it's been really good. Expensive, though, as they've had several vet visits in the last two months.

Work has been steadily ramping up. Lots of new projects being tossed my way. It's certainly a good thing, from a job security POV. But, it's a lot of work. I'm falling behind on my schoolwork. I also should be getting a raise either this week or next. Probably just a little one, but that's still better than nothing. We'll see.

In other money news, we got a home equity line to consolidate our credit cards, and do a little home improvement. We're redoing the kitchen, possibly completely. Last weekend, we went out and bought a new shelving system for the pantry. It's really nice. I'm very excited about the whole project.

Unfortunately, because of work, my brain seems to be running at suboptimal speeds. I'm forgetting all kinds of stuff. My creative juices just aren't up to par. I feel like I'm not pulling my weight around the house. I need to figure out what's wrong.

Oh, and we've been having lots of random wackiness, which has pretty much taken up most evenings for the past couple weeks. So, we're woefully behind on our gym attendance. We must fix that next month.

As a note to various and sundry, most of our vacation plans have been made. We're going to Disney next month, for Sonya's birthday. We're also going down there for New Year's, which should be a blast. In September, we're going to San Francisco (which, unfortunately, I think is after technocowboy's big move). Any Frisco peeps got suggestions on what to do for a week out there (especially things that might not be in the guidebooks)?

And, I will leave you with a question I've been pondering at odd moments lately. For twenty years now, blink dogs have been described in D&D as being intelligent, and have been given a distinct alignment. Do you think they could work as a PC race? Obviously, something would have to be worked out for language (maybe just handwave that they can now speak), and to make them tool-using (only vague ideas on this one, like mage hand at will). But, do you think people would like playing intelligent, teleporting dogs (or their feline adversaries, the displacer beasts)?
