Day 11

Apr 25, 2008 18:19

Had a pretty late day this morning.
I had organised to meet Anna at 11 for brunch.
So I had a nice long bubble bath
And took my time to get ready.

Finally I walked to hotel de ville to meet her
We met at the merry go round
And headed towards saint michel.
Which is just across the seine river.
We found a cute little café tucked away somewhere
And ordered the “brunch grand”
It was ridiculous amounts of food.
We couldn’t even fit it all on our little table.

But we sat there for a few hours
Enjoying it all
And having chats.
At about 1pm we set off through the streets of saint michel.
We ended up in the Luxemburg gardens.
They are these beautiful gardens on the south of Paris.
They were made for “the people”
Anna said its one part of Paris that Parisians actually still go to.
They are absolutely beautiful.
We sat in the middle of the garden.

There are chairs set up through out the park
Just for anyone to sit on.
Right in front of us was this giant pond.
Where you could rent tiny boats
And push them around the pond with giant wooden sticks.

It was a lovely place to just chill out.
And it was amazing how many people where just sitting around as well.
At 1-3pm on a Tuesday.
Do people not have jobs here?

So at about 3 we set off to the Pantheon.
Anna knew of a cute little area in a back street.
With very nice restaurants and cafes.
Out of the way of the tourist area.
We sat at a café and drank a beer
While watching the passing French youth.

I think im getting quite good at pointing out the tourists amongst the crowds.
The French kids are super tiny skinny.
And seem to put no effort into their outfits,
Yet still look awesome and well dressed.
These boys came and sat near us.
Wearing purple jumpers, trendy sunglasses and tight black pants.
If you dressed like that anywhere in aus everyone would think you were gay.
Here, you just look well dressed.

Anna and I set off again home.
One the way we bumped in the Ella (from ella and jean, the French twins) and Bernice.
What are the chances of running in to two more Telopea/Narrabundah girls in paris.
But I guess it’s a pretty small world.
I also love how Ive never really talked to those girls before.
But once youre in a foreign country with them
Youre BEST friends.
Haha

Got back to hotel de ville and said bye to anna.

When i got home there was drama.
I jewlery shop across the road from our apartment had been robbed.
There was blood all up the street.
Im guessing the person smashed the window and cut their hand.
But there were police everywhere.
They had police taped off the street.
And there were forensic there taking pictures
And blood samples.
It all went on for a couple of hours.

Went to dinner in this awesome place near bastille.
We cought a taxi there.
Taxis are very cheap here.
But roads are mainly one way
So it takes awhile to get anywhere.
The restaurant was called Bistro Baracane
Probably my fav meal of the trip.
We sat in this table at the back.
I had snails as my entrée.
I felt I needed to have them while I was there.
They were actually super tasty.
As bayard said “kind of like mushrooms”
They were in a very buttery/garlicy sauce.
For my main I had roast duck in plum sauce.
Soooo good.
=)
We drank a lot of good wine.
And the waiter gave us free shots of Calvados.
It’s a French apple brandy liqueur
Pretty much tasted like poison
But it was free
And hilarious to drink.

Walked home
And got icecreams in the street.
Once home we carried on the party.
I had more calvados in coke.
Mainly cos we accidentally bought 12 cans of coke
And we only have 3 days to drink them.
I mean I like coke and all…
But that’s even too much for me.
Now I seem to be trying to drink it all the time
So its not wasted.
Had a pretty late night.
I think we even called bill.
Just to see if he was up at 6am.
Hahaha.
