Random ponder of the day

Jul 30, 2007 14:11

It was actually such_heights that brought this up, and now I can't stop thinking about it. Why doesn't His Dark Materials have an active online fanbase? They are very well known books and are about to become a huge film franchise, so you'd think there would be huge communities squeeing, but there isn't. Is it because, Harry Potter phenomenon aside, fandom just doesn't do the book thing the way it does the TV/Film thing? Because the fans are out there - I've watched various members of my f-list repost the trail from a couple of entries back, and watch their f-lists squee in turn. People DO care. Where's the online fandom hiding, then? Bridgetothestars.net? It's a great website but it's not that busy. Tis odd. I hearby proprose the first meeting of "The Let's Make HDM a Massive Fandom Society". First item on the agenda: come up with a better name than "The Let's Make HDM a Massive Fandom Society".

fandom owns my soul, his dark materials
