Push it out to sea

As at some point I should let everyone know I’m alive, here I am, um...letting everyone know I’m alive.

First off, belated birthday wishes to foxestacado, much_reality, firelake_87, holly_cky and doyoucopy. Hope you all had a lovely day.

For my part, thank you all for your birthday messages last week, they were much appreciated and aawwwwed at. I had to spend most of the day studying, but in the evening londonbeauty001 brought me dinner (thank you, Wendy!) and much flailing was achieved with red_scully, medland, themightypeet and the newly indoctrinate into our world of squee alexia88. Which was clearly as much fun as it always is, and a welcome break from uni week of doooom following moving week of doooom. Then I went back to the Midlands to let my family pamper me (this never turns out according to plan), see our new house (our living room is so pretty with all our stuff in it!) and hang out with leanneg and fliss26.*

So that is pretty much a brief account of where I have been. Internet access at the Convent is still sporadic to mostly not available. Even when I can connect it’s so slow (we’re talking 5.5mbps here, people) I can’t make it do much. I’ve pretty much given up of seeing the season finale of Torchwood, especially since I can’t make my headphones work with the uni computers. As someone spoilered me anyway (Ggrrr Arrgg) I'm sure I’ll live.

One massive positive about the Convent though: Hampstead is beautiful. So beautiful, possibly the most beautiful place in London I’ve ever found. Yesterday I took one of my uni books and had lunch in a little cafe, then walked to Hampstead Heath and sat on the swing for ages reading and listening to Moby. It was the nicest day I’ve had since forever, I need to spend more days like that. Oh, and I brought the new Pullman book! Squee! I haven't read it yet due to uni stuff and the fact that PP, love him though I do, is the world's slowest writer. I know it's going to be forever till the next one, and I intend to savour.

The other major thing occupying me right now is job hunting. Anyone hiring in the Burton-on-Trent area? No? Please? I’m good at smiling and making tea. Clearly critical life skills. Oxfam are currently advertising for a shop manager in Burton which is my ideal job, but I’m woefully underqualified. Seriously, I might make supervisor somewhere if I’m lucky but mostly I’m looking at basic level staff. I’m half-considering applying just for the hell of it but really, reading through what they are looking for I won’t come anywhere near interview level, so there is no point, right?

And now I should get back to a small thing called my dissertation. Eeep.

*Disclaimer: All these LJ user names makes it seem like my whole social life is constructed around this website. That’s probably because it is.
