Where to start studying? Hit alphagrams of the high-prob sevens and eights -- hit it with zyzzyva cardbox, probably. and then fours. you've prob seen most of them already. you can just hit jumbletime like a mofo# for the fours, or learn all their definitions, or whichever.
we'll talk. hope you feel better. shun the illness, shuuuuuunnnnnnnnna!
i learned the fours by jumbletiming like a mofo. actually, i learned most of the words i know that way.
i would add that the problems you listed are probably also due to lack of experience. it takes practice to know when to challenge, how to use your tracking and how to win an endgame. i probably don't know that many more words than you do, but i have a pretty strong sense of when it's the wrong time to challenge.
there's a lot to be said for being able to think "i've been in this situation before and this is what i need to do." and that just comes with playing more games and learning from your mistakes.
i probably don't know that many more words than you do, but i have a pretty strong sense of when it's the wrong time to challenge.
i think everyone knows more words than i do. it's terrible.
as far as learning from my mistakes...these were mistakes i was making and aware of some time ago. just as i felt i was getting past it, a combination of work and winter weather took a huge chunk out of my live game time. time across the board will always be my favorite way to learn.
leave the desperation phonies of my opponent on the board thinking (incorrectly, usually due to the stupid thing listed above) that i can still win without risking the loss of turn.
I do this all the freakin' time. Ask andysaunders about the effect that the twenty-second rule had on one of our games once.
