I still remember my great disappointment in sequels written by sort of professional writers to "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen and "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell. I was so let down by them that i decided then never to buy and read sequels that weren't written by authors of original works. They are simply below the mark. It's

I think you're right that TV or movies could work better than books. Though to be honest apart from Robin Hood BBC I haven't really read much fanfiction that hasn't in theory been based on both written and visual source. I used to be a bit of surprised while reading fanfiction based on a classic or a popular novel that many fanfiction writers don't read the original novel, but based their writing only on a TV series or a film. I was surprised that some of them don't even want to check for themselves the differences between the original and its adaptation. But nothing surpassed my astonishment when I got to know that the writer of "Black Knight Deception" hadn't really watched Robin Hood BBC TV series! Surprisingly though the story is really good and Guy's character and plot are convincing. There were two things, however, that I didn't like: Guy's OC ladylove(her sudden reappearance in the second part of the story seemed unnecessary and unconvincing, and she seemed so unreal that doesn't make a full-blown character) and his final treatment of Marian. But I liked the story as a whole, as AU of the whole story.
Thank you for all the links.:)I will try to find some time to come round to RH forum. At present I'm reading a German GM story "Wenn Liebe Bricht". Unfortunately, my German leaves much to be desired, so it's a bit time-consuming task. I've finished all the chapters with context reading, and now I'm focusing more on the details, particular phrases, particular scenes. I'd like to read the story you translated from Russian in the original version. Was the link inclueded in that thread on yuku?

I'll be happy to give you links to the original Russian stories. I've seen "Wenn Liebe Bricht" on fanfiction.net, but my German is practically non-existent, so I haven't even been trying to follow it.
Do stop by the forum!

"Wenn Liebe Bricht" is a nice story, set about a week after burning down Marian's house. It's AU and doesn't follow the plot of TV series. But it provides a good combination of intrigue, action, reflection and romance. The characterizations of Guy, Marian, Robin or Much differ quite a bit from the canon, but in this AU it works quite well. I like how those differences influence the relationships between Guy and Sherif, Guy and Marian, Marian and Robin. Guy is here much more confident and eloquent, better in disguising his feelings and opinions from both the sheriff and Marian. Robin is a bit of a flawed hero, with both highs and lows, not that reckless, brave and reliable as in the canon, but not a bad guy either. Marian is more openly hostile to Guy and more dependent on Robin and more influenced by him than in the canon, but later she revaluates her views. The sheriff is an interesting character, perceptive, manipulative, ruthless and mega ambitious. After reading the first chapter I've got some other expectation how the story would develop, to some extent I suspect that the writer has changed her concept during writing the story. I'm planning to write to her to enquire her about it and some other things e.g. the use of some phrases and her insistence on using "Ihr" instead "Sie".
