I still remember my great disappointment in sequels written by sort of professional writers to "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen and "Gone with the Wind" by Margaret Mitchell. I was so let down by them that i decided then never to buy and read sequels that weren't written by authors of original works. They are simply below the mark. It's ( Read more... )

I try baby steps with my Russian.:)I used to speak Russian quite well, but then I lost contact with this language for many years. I hit rock-bottom when coming by chance on a Russian website I had problems with recognizing particular letters of alphabet, not to mention a fluent reading. I got annoyed and took some steps to do something about it. So I started from the scratch, revising the written and printed alphabet, syntax, grammar and basic vocabulary. When I was checking a Russian Sherwood forum a few days ago searching for RH audiobooks links (unfortunately they turned out to be removed from Deposit host site:(), I found that I could understand the posts without much difficulty.:) But there is quite a wide gap between understanding and actively using the language. A long way to go.:)

"Wenn Liebe Bricht" is a nice story, set about a week after burning down Marian's house. It's AU and doesn't follow the plot of TV series. But it provides a good combination of intrigue, action, reflection and romance. The characterizations of Guy, Marian, Robin or Much differ quite a bit from the canon, but in this AU it works quite well. I like how those differences influence the relationships between Guy and Sherif, Guy and Marian, Marian and Robin. Guy is here much more confident and eloquent, better in disguising his feelings and opinions from both the sheriff and Marian. Robin is a bit of a flawed hero, with both highs and lows, not that reckless, brave and reliable as in the canon, but not a bad guy either. Marian is more openly hostile to Guy and more dependent on Robin and more influenced by him than in the canon, but later she revaluates her views. The sheriff is an interesting character, perceptive, manipulative, ruthless and mega ambitious. After reading the first chapter I've got some other expectation how the story would develop, to some extent I suspect that the writer has changed her concept during writing the story. I'm planning to write to her to enquire her about it and some other things e.g. the use of some phrases and her insistence on using "Ihr" instead "Sie".
