So. I'd forgotten how weird it is to dive into a new fandom. It's...strange, but also pretty fucking exciting. I'm not leaving bandom (I love you all too much for that) but I am going to try existing in two places at once and see how that works out for me.
And now, I shall geek out on you about my latest obsession.
The original slash pairing (re-imagined), let me show you it:
I used to watch reruns of the original Star Trek with my dad and I've seen parts of the first few movies, but I've never been involved past that. The new movie has recently blown me away. If you haven't seen it yet, WHY ARE WE FRIENDS? I generally trust J.J. Abrams to deliver (when he's actually in charge of his own projects) but I'm pretty picky about movies. This new trek movie is one of the best movies I've seen in a long while.
Mostly, I blame it on these two hot asses & their special brand of addicting bromance:
Chris Pine (aka: Jim Kirk, aka: Captain Fine) & Zach Quinto (aka: Commander Spock, aka: ZQ)
I've been spending a lot of time lurking
ontd_startrek. THIS COMM IS FUCKING HILARIOUS. There are posts about
J.J. Abrams' over use of lens flares in the new movie, macros all over the place (that manage to be funny without being hurtful) and walking posts. Walking posts are...just what they say they are. Paparazzi pictures of ZQ & Captain Fine WALKING. And they're so witty about it!
I've also been hanging around the intensely popular star trek anon/non-anon kink meme (
st_xi_kink).
Here's a summary of what can be found in the kink meme in 30 seconds. Basically, it describes exactly what you'll see if you click on over to the millions of comments at the meme. Whoever wrote that is amazing. All of it is so true!
AND THE FIC. You guys. Unsurprisingly, there are some amazingly talented writers in st fandom.
You'll Get There In The End (It Just Takes a While) by
seperisI can't even explain how much I am in love with this story right now. She has such a clear view of Jim. He is headstrong, too smart for his own good, filled with restless energy, and so passionate. That is Captain Kirk to me. I love how easy it is to see how Kirk and Spock fit together as friends first, then as lovers. Though she does take one of the oldest plot lines in trek history, this just has such a gorgeous build to it that it doesn't even matter. I've never been so turned on by non-sex scenes in my entire life. Anyway, just read it. If you've seen the movie-- it should make sense.
I'm also (re)watching old episodes of the original series because I feel as though I'm so behind when it comes to cannon knowledge. There's over thirty years of slash & cannon here. If you haven't seen the original star trek series, let me tell you-- IT IS SO FUCKING CAMPY. We have so little to actually make up slash-wise that it isn't even funny.
So, just a fair warning. I'm not leaving bandom, but I will be fangirling Star Trek quite a lot in the future.
And, as Geralynn puts it (in rough paraphrase): "I'm married to bandom, but I'm possibly (probably) cheating on it with someone younger & less wanky. Also... I don't really feel bad about it."
In conclusion:
OHH, AND: everyone who took the time to read my bbb: THANK YOU! I really am proud of how it turned out. :) I'm working my way through comments now!
