“You didn’t-” Ryan mumbles defensively.
Brendon grunts in disbelief, roll his eyes. “No, I did. I really did,” he shakes his head, takes a drag and blows the smoke up into the darkening sky. He flexes his right hand like it aches from the punch, and Ryan can see where the skin is red, raw. Good. “I thought you were going to take my head off for a second there.”
“I wanted to,” Ryan answers quietly, and it’s the truth. He waits for Brendon to ask about it, to laugh at him for being afraid of someone that doesn’t exist anymore.
