Folie A Deux
"Amber,” Pete started as we walked into his office.
“Pete,” I coldly said back.
He smiled as he shut the door, “I’ll sign you and your band, but…”
“There’s a catch?” I asked as I sat down on a brown leather chair.
He sighed as he sat down in his black chair behind his desk. He moved his mouse for the computer and started typing stuff in. I wanted to say ‘you need a pair of glasses?’ but I decided to keep it to my self. I looked over at a shelf. It had pictures of Ashlee, and some of him with Patrick, Andy and Joe.
“Ok,” he said after what seemed like forever. “I want you guys to work here at Decaydance records for 5 months. You know, get the feel for the music business. If you still want to do this, I’ll sign you guys,” He finished and looked up at me.
I bit my lip. ”I’ll have to ask Sarah, Lauren and Kodie.”
Pete stood up from his seat, “I’ll be back, call them,” He smiled then walked out.
I pulled out my pink Blackberry Pearl, scrolled down the contacts and hit send when I got to Kodies’s number. Sarah, Lauren and Kodie where back at the hotel, waiting to hear what Pete had to say.
“Hello?” Kodie said.
“Hey, you have it on speaker?” I said.
“Hey Amber!” Sarah and Lauren yelled.
“So what did Pete say?” Kodie asked.
I took in a deep breath. “He said we had to work at Decay for 5 months to get a hang on the music business. Then, if we still want to get signed, he will.”
There was silence for a second. ”Well, he has a good point. Tell him yes,” Sarah said.
“Lauren? Kodie? What do you guys think?” I asked.
“Sounds good,” Lauren laughed.
“It’s good!” Kodie said. They all laughed into the phone. I shook my head.
“Okay, I’ll tell him! Bye guys!”
“Bye!” They all yelled. I hit end and slipped my phone into my purse.
Pete walked in about a minute later. “So,” he asked hopefully, ” What did they say?”
I smiled and stood up from my seat. “They said yeah!”
He walked over to me, gave me a hug and I hugged him back. Ever since Ashlee had Bronx, Pete has been very father-like towards me. We pulled out of our hug.
“Okay, all four of you be here at 7:00 am tomorrow. Wear comfy but nice clothing.”
“Okay. Thanks Pete.”
I turned around to walk away, but he then said, ”Then we can move your stuff into the apartment.”
I wiped back around. “What apartment?”
“I’m not going to keep you guys in the hotel for 5 months. I have an apartment building where I let all my clients stay. It’s very private.”
“Oh, okay. Thanks,” I smiled as I walked out of the office.

I got back to the hotel and told them everything. We got pizza, pop and movies to celebrate. Then we went to bed early.
The next morning we got up early, excited to start our jobs.
That morning I had to copy and file a bunch of paperwork.
“Pete, what does this have to do with music?” I asked as he handed me a huge stack of paperwork.
“Knowing how to keep track of songs, compositions, and lyrics. What instruments sound good with what notes, and so on.”
I sighed as I walked out of the office out into the hall. The stack of papers where so large, I couldn't see over the top of them. I lost my balance and fell back. The hundreds of papers went into the air and fluttered down all over the hall.
“Ugh,” I moaned as I got on my knees and started to pick up all the papers.
“Need some help?” Someone asked. My eyes got wide, I knew that voice. I closed my eyes and breathed in, stood up and turned around.
Brendon stood there smiling.
“Actually, yeah. Thanks,” I said as we both got down on our knees and picked up the papers.
When we finished he grabbed half of the stack and said, ”Come on, I’ll help you take these to the room with the files in it. And as we walk we can talk.”
I let out a little giggle, ”Okay,” I said as I got the other half of the stack and we started walking to the file room.
“So, I didn’t get your name.”
“Amber,” I responded.
“Brendon,” The quickly said, ”So what’s a pretty girl like you doing working here?”
I grinned. “Trying to get a record deal.”
“Pete is making you work to get a record deal?”
“It’s not work," I corrected him. “It’s to get the hang of the music business. “
“Ah,” He said. We stopped in front of the file room. He opened the door and set his stack of papers on the table.
“I’ll see you later,” I smiled
He smiled back. “Yeah,” he turned to walk out but he stopped him self. ”Do you mind if I give you my number? So we could maybe go out to dinner tonight?”
My heart dropped into my stomach.
I blushed and said, ”No, I wouldn’t mind.”
These next 5 months are going to be…interesting.
