2008 JEE Chinese writing tasks

Notes: Except otherwise stated, students should write a 800-character essay based on the topic. It is free for students to take any angle of the topic and designate their titles, but they cannot write it as poetry.


National I (Hebei, Henan, Shanxi, Guangxi):
Read the following piece and write a 800-character essay according to the insrtruction at the bottom.
At 14:28 of 12 May 2008, a 8.0 scale earthquake erupted at Minchuan County, Sichuan.
The life of the People above all else!
Party, State and Military leaders from Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao, etc., has promptly reached affected areas to lead the post-quake rescue.
More than one hundred thousand of the People's Liberation Army, the People's Armed Police, Public Security polices, and also rescue teams, medical teams and engineer teams from all provinces swiftly enter affected areas. Rescue teams from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and the international community flew to the quake-devastated areas. Volunteers rushed into all places affected. And also were relief materials that came from land, water and the air.
A middle school teacher fatally protected four students under the lecture stand. A county commissioner, who himself lost 15 relatives, lead the rescue for 5 days, and only slept for 7 hours. Miracles of survival still came by: 100 hours, 160 hours, 196 hours...
China Central Television (CCTV) reported the situation live 24/7. The Nation mourned at 14:28 of 19 May.
The same concern is expressed differently: donation, blood banking, relief shows...

On an island beach in the south Pacific, there was a lot of holes that baby turtles were hatched. One evening, one of those little turtles raised its head out of the sand and an eagle came down, trying to get it. A tourist, upon seeing this, warded off the eagle and protected the little turtle to the sea.

Then the unexpected happened: all turtles, previously hidden in the sand, came out of their holes and trying to get to the sea. It turned out the baby turtle the tourist saved was a sentry amongst all turtles so as to find a time when when they can come out without the danger of the eagle's predation. So now the sentry came out with inappropriately, the others follow--to their detriment, since the eagle, after all, was still there after the tourist left...

Beijing:
Two questions, both have to be answered:
  1. In class, the teacher took out a cup, and put a piece of rock nearly as big as the cup into it, and asked, "Is the cup full yet?"
    "No; we can still put sand in it."
    So the teacher let a student put as much sand as he could, and asked again, "Is the cup full yet?"
    A student answered, "No, we can still put water in it."
    So the teacher poured all the rock and sand out of the cup and pour some more sand and water in. After that, she asked, "Is the cup full yet? How should I do if I want to put the rock into it?"
    The student then poured out the sand and water and put the sand back.

    The teacher then asked other student about what they feel about these:

  2. Earthquake extra: A picture having a clock stopped at 14:28 stopped on earthquake ruins was provided. Students should write their comments in 45 characters.


Shanghai:Usually, we care more about ourselves. Please write an essay of any form, any title, about them, at about 800 characters.

Tianjin: just being human. 800 characters, all kinds of writing permitted excluding poetry and drama script.

Chongqing: The Xiandai Hanyu Cidian listed the meanings of the word ziran as:
  • The nature.
  • To be developed spontaneously without human intervention.
  • To not looking artificial.


  • Please write an essay about Living in ziran.
    Instructions:

    Jiangsu: Curiosity

    Hubei: Read the following and write:
    If you saw a tree with dangling branches, would you rip that branch, or just drop your head and pass by? When a mite-infested wandering dog came by, would you just avoid it pitifully, or ou would kick it away? When the elevator door open, the you inside the elevator would rather let those in front of you go out, or would you shove them out? The road crossing light turned green and you stood beside a blind person-- would you hold him? What's more, how do you cross over others? How would you take the change from the street vendor? How would you tie up your undone shoelaces on the road? And how do you live with yourself when you are alone?

    Think about how do we treat the Nature, others and ourselves through the piece above, choose your angle, and write a piece titled In the most minute of acts, at at least 800 character length.

    Ningxia and Hainan:
    Xiaolan and her mother liked to see birds fly to sing, so they tried to keep birds. The first time, the bird starved to death since the mother was too busy and the girl was lazy, and the second time-- well, the bird went on quite well, but their friend complained that they have been deprived the bird of its right to fly and sing, so they were forced to release the bird. The third time they dealt with birds was when they were invited to a captive bird release activity-- in which was claimed to be sound in both ecological and environmental ways

    Using the story as a topic, write a essay longer than 800 characters, with your own title and viewpoint.

    Jiangxi:In 2007, flooding in the Dongting Lake in Hunan caused massive rat migration, which caused severe damage towards that province's agriculture. After the fact, it is often blamed the human consumption of skunk and the owl, both predators of the rat, as the main reason for the incident. Based on this, write a letter to the humankind as the rat or as one of its predators. Thus:
    1. Candidates should attempt this question in the form of a letter.
    2. Candidates should create their own title for the prompt.
    3. The answer should be relevant to the information above.
    4. The answer should be longer than 800 characters.
    5. No plagiarism is allowed.


    Liaoning: An recent survey on the values of young people revealed 26% of them were "indeterminate" towards bus seat courtesy; 28% of them "indeterminate" over public rowdiness; 25% having "no comment" over spitting, and 19% "indeterminate" over jaywalking. On this, some people think the valves of today's youth has degenerated, while some did not consider a degeneration have happened, and some think today's youth have more championed diversity. Write more than 800 characters over any viewpoint based on above, with your own title. Do not write as a poem.

    Fujian:Three people entered a store; own bought a sweet drink; one bought a bittersweet one, and the other bought a bland one. Write an essay based on this, with your own title.

    Hunan:Write an essay based on the meaning of a line from a Han Yu poem: The drizzle smooths the heavenly streets like oil;
