A hospital bed just like this was the last place she'd ever seen her mother, almost the last place she'd seen her father. It was where they almost lost Cassandra, it was where she'd waited countless times for word on her friend's conditions. It was where she'd watched Daniel fade and die. The infirmary was dark, it was a place of sadness, illness and death.
Janet Fraiser walked in from her office and Sam smiled.
The infirmary was one of her favorite places in the world.
