"No," Sam said softly, trying to control her breathing. "No, not again."
But the truth was undeniable. She cradled Bob's lifeless body in her hands, feeling the life drain from him. "Not you, too," she whispered. "Come on. Come on..." But her prayers went unheard. Bob slowly faded, slowly becoming limp in her hands.
"Damn it," she hissed. "Why?"
She slipped out of bed, pulling her pajama pants back into place as she headed for the kitchen to find another pair of double-As. "Even my Battery-Operated Boyfriends die sooner or later..."
