31/100. I'm not sick of them yet. Hope no one else is... ;-D Watch out for another of those drastic turns of tone. ;-D And, to keep people on their toes, two of these are actually two-parters. I think they can all stand alone, but... two of them were meant to be continuations.

Challenge #27 Winter Holidays

The Jaffa guard knew his lord would be pleased. An SG-1 team member's head would be proudly mounted in the trophy room tonight. His boots slipped silently through the snow. The idiot Tau'ri hadn't even turned yet. He got up close and put his staff against the human's head. "Surrender," he hissed.

The Tau'ri's head fell from his shoulders. Before the Jaffa could react, his armor was pierced with a volley of bullets.

The bush across the clearing parted.

"Nice work flushing him out, Carter," Jack said.

"Thank you, sir," said Sam, El Paso County Snowman Champion eight years running.

Challenge #28 Fun of the Fair

Janet let Cassandra watch the snowman-building competition while she got hot cocoa. A winter fair... who thought of that? Cassandra came running up, nearly toppling the cups of steaming hot chocolate. "Cass!" Janet hissed.

"Sorry! But you gotta see this!"

Janet let herself be dragged back to the snowman competition. "What is so all-fired important I... have..."

Samantha Carter was in the winner's circle. She wore a blue knit cap and she was beaming proudly. She looked all of eight-years-old, the joy on her face unmistakable.

Janet smiled; it was a side of Sam she wanted to see more often.

Challenge #29 Lost

"This cave is so damn dark."

"Vala, be quiet."

"Are you still mad at me for getting us lost?"

"..."

"Fine. Pout."

"Fine. I will."

"Daniel said you never used to be this bitchy."

"Daniel called me bitchy?"

"He may have said 'childish.' Have we been down this tunnel before?"

"Yes. I... don't think I've changed... much..."

"It's all right if you have. I rather like the you I know. I'd certainly rather be with you than any other version of you."

"That doesn't make any sense."

"So why are you smiling?"

"Check that tunnel over there."

"You're la-aughing...!"

"Vala!"

Challenge #30 Alphabet Soup

"Samantha Grace Carter..."

*thwap*

"...Lieutenant Colonel..."

*thwap*

"...43-412-6775-320."

The pain is red, like the splatters on the wall of her cell.

"Samantha Grace Carter..."

She starts the cycle over again as the whip comes down across her shoulder blades.

"...Lieutenant Colonel..."

She doesn't remember why the words are important. She's been whipped so often, her back a roadmap of healed scars, her body aching everywhere. She doesn't even know what the words mean anymore...

"...43-412-6775-320."

...only that it's important she says them and only them.

"Samantha Grace Carter."

They're the only words that matter anymore.

The whip comes down again.

Challenge #100 100 Challenge
Challenge #31 26 Letters

Janet's touch is gentle. She mends the wounds, applies a dressing and - bless her - tells a lie. "I don't think it will be... too bad."

But Sam sees the tears in Janet's eyes and knows her back will be forever marred by the whip marks. Her face will forever be scarred and she'll carry the burns to her grave. She lay on her stomach in the med center, a ruin of who she once was. They said parts of her memory would never return... but she remembered enough.

It's damn hard to think of it as a rescue.
