Dang, you're really fond of history aren't you? But isn't September 16th Mexico's Independence Day? Why would they celebrate it the day after the signal was actually given? Or is it the 16th because it was an hour until midnight so they decided to push back the day?

I have had the good fortune to have been in Querétaro for two successive Independence Days and they were both amazing. The celebrations are held in the night, so I suspect that the following day is given as a holiday so that it can be slept off.

I lived through Gilbert. Not fun.

My uncle served in the Royal Air Force, although his training as a radar operator ended after the end of the war.

Ah, I see. 'Cause my calendar does say that the 16th is Independence Day. What you said makes sense.

I'm glad that I don't live near any hurricane prone areas... We just get the left over rain if it comes our way.

Hmmm... I'm trying to think if I had any family in the service during any war... I think I had a great-(great?)grandfather in World War 1... When did the Vietnam War end? 'Cause my dad was in the Navy from about 1974??-1978 *snicker* he served on the USS Enterprise :D

Just checked Wikipedia, which says that American forces left Vietnam in 1973. Your father would have just missed it.

Independence in Mexico alexiel_rieth September 11 2006, 03:50:22 UTC
Well in september 15th the Corregidora from Queretaro send a messenger to Allende and to Hidalgo, saying that the spanish where aware of the conspiracy, and to start the revolution, in the Town of Dolores in Guanajuato Miguel Hidalgo made the dry for independence at 11:00pm (not exactly..)

During the time of president dictator Don Porfirio Diaz, he moved the celebration from September 16th to 15th because that day is his birthday, and change the history books saying the cry of Dolores was at 11:00pm on the 15th, but independence day is officialy on the 16th.
