Sometimes it doesn't matter how well intentioned a critique was - the language used (the mode of communication) will automatically set an author against your advice.
Can I suggest you take a look at two articles on Critters Writers Workshop? http://critters.org/
It's Not What You Say, It's How You Say It and The Diplomatic Critiquer.
We may think our reviews are politely worded - there are some common phrases or suggestions which are almost guaranteed to irritate a writer.
These suggested guidelines aren't here to prevent you offering negative criticism - but they are saying if your real intention is to help, there are ways to increase your chances of the writer listening to your suggestions - not focusing on the tone of your delivery.
I hope you receive this pages as suggestions in the spirit they were offered. Reviewers should be encouraged ... but they also need to be encouraged to improve their own reviewing skills. And to understand better how the language they use is as important as the advice they give.

Oh, what. Hang on a minute. What's that? That's right, it's not.
So don't start bringing all of this into my personal journal, because this shit isn't going to fly.
I understand that you're trying to "help me out" because, whoever you are, you saw my post on that silly ranting community. Oh hey, guess what. Go on, try and guess. You'll never get it, I'm telling you.
Give up? Okay, get this: as it turns out, this isn't that ranting community, is it? No. It's not.
Does it really make any sense that you'd talk about my said post on said ranting community in my journal? I hope you're now aware that the answer is no.
Please, if you have something to say that you feel, for whatever reason, you cannot post right there, on that post, then just send me a message for Christ's sake.
Just do not, say it with me now, do not post in my journal with your "good-reviewer" bullshit.
But, should you read the contents of my journal and feel the need to comment about that content, then by all means, feel free. Thank you.
