"You owe me BIG time!!!"

Apr 15, 2008 10:10

Joel wins the greatest friend award about two or three weeks ago... I can't remember exactly. I've been meaning to write this story in here for awhile now because it is def. worth remembering but I am just now getting around to it. Thanks to me not remembering to set an alarm and waking up at 9:25 for a 9:30 class and rushing there to find out the professor didn't show up....so I have some spare time!  WHAT A MORNING!

Anywho, so on a Thursday a few weeks ago I was sitting in class and realized I wanted a dress from home to wear to the "Prom" my friends here at IU put on everyone year but knew I wouldn't have time to go home before this past weekend which is when prom was. Then I remembered that Joel was coming to IU that day! So I txted him at 1:30ish to see when he was leaving and he said 3. I ran out of class and called my dad to see if he was home so that Joel could go over and pick up my dress. I called the house, his cell phone and his work number and there was no answer from any of them! So I proceed to try and communicate with Joel and get ahold of my dad while still in international econ... (i HATE that class..haha). As I was walking home from class I called Joel and told him to just call me as he was driving away from his westerville home and I would try to get ahold of my dad until then and if i couldn't probably just give joel the garage code and have him go inside.

I called my mom. She didn't know where he was. So i preceded to call the house several times in row thinking maybe he was doing work in the basement and was just ignoring my calls or was napping. And here's the thing with the napping.....  my dad is a diabetic. Therefore sometimes (more often then I like) when he naps/sleeps at night he wakes up with low blood sugar (NOT GOOD). Because of this my dad knows that he MUST answer the phone and prove to my mom or I (whoever is calling to wake him up from said nap) that he is not having low blood sugar and that he will get up and check it to make sure. So he ALWAYS answers the phone if he is napping.      ..... still no answer....

Joel calls. And I send him over to the house... a little worried at this point that my dad might be inside passed out or worse but trying not to let Joel know.

J: "I'm at the house."
S: "Is there a car in the driveway?"
J: "A red suburban."
S: "That's my dads car! He HAS to be home! Go ring the doorbell."
J: *Rings doorbell*
S: "Look down. Is Scotty at the window? Is my dad coming to the door?"
J: "No and no"
S: "Crap....uhhh okkk. Joel at this point I"m a little bit worried. But maybe he left with a friend or is on a walk with Scotty. Let me call the house ONE more time."
***Calls house three times in a row while Joel checks the backyard to make sure he is not passed out back there***......**No answer***  "Ok, Joel go to the garage and type in this code ***** and go inside slowly cause Scotty might run out."
J: "Scotty is in his crate."
S: "What is going on?! His car is there which means he is probably there and he is prob napping but Scotty would be napping with him..! Call his name and check in the basement."
J: ".....Mr. Robeano!...."  **no answer**
S: "Ok, he must not be there just go upstairs to my room and get the dress and I'll figure out where he is later. But yell his name as you go up"
J: "Ok..." *proceeds upstairs* "Mr. Robeano.... Mr. Robeano...!"
S: "Are all the doors shut? We always keep all the doors shut because of Scotty."
J: "....No....they are all open......except for one...."
S:" !!!! which one? !!! why is everything not how it should be!!?!"
J: "I think it's your door that is shut."
S: "Ok.. well thats normal no one ever goes in there. Just peek your head in the other rooms and see if my dad is sleeping in any of them."
J: "nope."
S: "Ok whatever this is ridic. Just go in my room."
J: "Ok..........**heavy breathing...whispers something I can't understand***
S: "Joel?!?! what?! whats going on?!"  ***begins to shake as I"m sure he just either 1) found my dad passed out or 2) was attacked from behind by my dad
J: "THERE WAS SOMEONE IN YOUR BED!"
S: "What?! who?! my dad?!"
J: "I think so!"

S: "Why?! My dad never goes in my room! Let alone sleeps in MY bed!! Oh my gosh oh my gosh. Ok Joel I don't want to freak you out but this is not good. My dad is a diabetic and at this point I"m really scared that he is not ok. He always wakes up and answers the phone when he is sleeping (**I'm also thinking he was probably so out of it he didnt even know who's room he was going into). I need you to go back in there and I will stay on the phone with you. You have to wake my dad up and if he doesnt wake up or wakes up and starts acting crazy due to low blood sugar then you need to grab the house phone on your left and run out of the room and call 911 and then grab chocolate from our dining room and try to get my dad to eat it. I'm sooo sorry!!"

J: ".......**quivering voice***.......ooookkkkk."

**I hear Joel open the door again and then say obviously to my dad who has woken up at this point.. "Hey...sorry Sam sent me over to pick something up for her...."

Dad: "How did you get in?!"

S: "Oh Joel. He's fine. If he's worried about security first and foremost then he is totally fine. Just hand him the phone."..... "Dad! What are you doing?!?!"

Dad: "Well, the cleaning ladies were here and I wanted to take a nap."

Awwwhhh. It ALL comes together. Every other Thursday cleaning ladies come to our house and my dad puts Scotty in his crate and he opens all the doors and they usually just quickly vaccumm my room and are done with it first. So he went in there to nap while they cleaned the rest of the house. AND the big kicker is I turn the ringer on my phone in my room off... so he couldn't hear the phone ringing!!! It all makes sense now.

So to sum up the story. Joel got my dress, apologized to my confused dad over and over again. Walked out the door and said to me,

"YOU OWE ME BIG TIME!!!"

haha oops.....! I felt horrible but in all honesty it was a totally ligit freak out. I told my mom about it later and she said she would have reacted the same way. Its just the reality of growing up with a diabetic father.

Well THANKS again Joel :) lol

btw, once joel got to IU a few hours later I found out that when I couldn't hear what was going on he had whispered, "Someone is sleeping in your bed!" and then he proceeded to inch backwards down my stairs.... haha oh Joel

J: "I felt like I was in a horror movie!"
