My weekend of movies and no life

Jun 14, 2010 20:53

I went to the monthly GenghisCon screening for the A-team on Friday night, and freaked out on saturday night, because I thought I was working on Sunday morning but (luckily) I had a strange feeling and decided to check as it was a last minute additional shift, I found out that is was the next Sunday that I was given a morning shift. So I decided to skip doing anything for the weekend anyway and started making my dinner and noticed that Charlotte's Web was playing on TV and decided to watch it.

Anyway two movies reviews;
The A-Team:I really enjoyed this film, it was a nice action film, with the right amount of comedy, darkness and shit blowing up. The action scenes were clever and fast-paced enough that I did not get bored, the gadgets and plans were intriguing and clever, the characters were all likable, I admit a did not like Murdoch when first introduced but his craziness grew on me. The comedy was actually funny and not cheesy one liners like most action movies fall into. Also Liam Neeson has an awesome accent.
I heard some complaints of it never living up to the original show but I had only seen a teeny bit of the original show,* and there were some moments where it there were obvious references I was not getting, but just as a standalone movie I thought it was great, even worth considering seeing it a second time, Which is saying quite a bit because I don't have many action movies I like enough to watch more than once.

* My father was a somewhat fan and watched it a bit growing up, so I did not have much a basis to compare to the original, besides the knowledge of Mr. T's many quirks. (but that might have more to do than pop culture than anything)

and
Charlotte's Web: Nick live-action movies are not really my forte but after a while I did manage to get in to this movie. I was a fan of the original cartoon when I was younger, it even convinced me to beg my mum to let me turn vegetarian. But I starting to watch this movie and was creeped out by Charlotte's appearance (giant realistic spider on my TV screen is not doing well for my arachnophobia) and the dialogue from some of the characters were kinda lame; mostly the rat and the horse. But I think the only part that won me over was the storyline, which was a really gorgeous and you got the whole moral behind the story thing to think about once it finished. All in all, it was not a waste of 90 minutes of my life, and was well filmed, but I wasn't all that special or different.

* She never did let me, apparently Italians take their carnivorous side very seriously, then I grew up and realised that the world is too fucked up to do any amount of difference.

Also vegos please don't bitch at me, my reasons are more complex than that.

movies, conventions
