I'm a little disturbed by the protesters in Spain who are blaming the terrorist attacks on us and their government's support of the "war on terror" (I hate that term, but what can you do?).

I have a hard time understanding the mindset that would rather accept and absorb these attacks without responding, and then also accept the blame for instigating them. It's the battered wife syndrome on a global scale. It's incomprehensible to me.

Yes, Spain WAS struck because they're involved...Great Britain probably has one coming too. I'll bet France and Germany will be left alone...a smart strategy for the terrorists would be to divide the central European powers into the "safe" countries and the "target" countries. The longer the west remains divided on the issue, the greater their chances of doing some real damage. al Qaeda blamed the recent attacks on their involvement, and that was designed to weaken the Spanish government's position among a populace already unhappy with the war. And its working perfectly...

These protesters, and anyone who doesn't seem to "get" just what the hell is going on here, should understand that the attacks against the WTC were not just a blow at America. They were designed as the opening salvo in a broad campaign against the western powers and our system of capitalist, somewhat secular, representative democracy. America is currently the titular head of that movement, but all of our traditional "allies" are part of that world as well. Why they don't see the threat, given all that happened in the last century on those MANY occassions when they failed to act, is beyond me.

Their position is one of fear and weakness...and I despise them for it.
