November book wrangle

November was sort of a busy month, so fewer books. I am up over 50, though!

Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson (this was actually a reread; I read it in Julie Rivkin's "Women in Contemporary American Literature" class and flat-out hated it, but Robinson has been getting so much good press lately for Gilead, which I haven't read, I thought I try Housekeeping again. I did like it better, ten years later, but as a college instructor, I'd never try to teach it; it requires too much abstract appreciation and patience for description; the plot is pretty meager.)

(insert rereads of Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer and The Dive from Clausen's Pier by Ann Packer here; I ran out of books)

Falling Through The Earth by Danielle Trussoni (decent memoir from a woman a bit older than me about her father's post-Vietnam mental health problems)

Privilege: Harvard and the Education of the Ruling Class by Ross Gregory Douthat (great expose of how screwed up undergrad education is at Harvard; all I can say is, three cheers for Conn!

This brings me to 52!
