I have the strangest luck.

I was woken up at 2 o'clock on Friday morning by a massive storm. Of course the first thought that passed through my mind was that a month after moving to Oklahoma I was going to die in a tornado. So I switch on the TV where they're saying severe thunderstorms and winds ranging from 70 to 60 mph. I think about my car sitting exposed in the driveway and how my friends have a perfectly empty garage that I could put it in and avoid any kind of hail or random tree falling damage. So I get up and go out in the rain to move it into the garage. Then I come back inside, get under the covers and watch the news until the power goes out. I grabbed my cell phone to see what time it was and to make sure that the alarm was set for the next morning and then shortly fell asleep.

Fast forward to the next morning where I wake up to some pretty strong daylight, clouds withstanding. I search for my phone only to locate it at the end of the bed near my feet. I must have kicked it down there when I was sleeping. I also must not have heard the alarm go off under the covers as it's already 9 o'clock and I'm an hour late for work. I jump out of bed and run for the phone to tell them why I'm so late only to find the line dead.

I get dressed, run for the door and it's about the time I'm hitting the garage door opener for the fifth time that I realize that the power is still out and my car is stuck in the garage. After taking a moment to say "WHY GOD, WHY?" I run out the door and walk a block to a convience store on the corner where I plan on calling into work and asking for a ride. Only their line is down also. It occurs to me that I have a cell phone and I try to use it, but the number won't go through.

So then, as an absolute last resort, I walk sixteen blocks to work in a steady sprinkle. All things considered I think it's pretty impressive that I managed to get there by 9:45 am.

Why does this stuff happen to me?

Sometimes I wonder what kind of a horrible person I must have been in a previous life.

In other news this is the last day of my house sitting stunt. Honestly, I'm just glad I didn't somehow manage to burn down the house. I should be back within a week or so should the DSL gods at Southwestern Bell look down favorably on me.

PS. They're making an Elf 2 ... more guilty Will Ferrell fun. I can't wait for Bewitched.

PPS. Speaking of Bewitched, should I be bothered by the fact that my boss has decided to rename me Tabitha? She's almost got everyone else in the office calling me that now.
