Last night was a lovely spooky Halloween. It was also the 11th anniversary of our first date! I wouldn't necessarily keep track of such things, but it's a holiday so it's easy to remember.
The year 2000. It sounds so long ago, and yet not long ago. I remember bumping into Al at least 3 times in one month- when we'd never met before. This was in spite of having many mutual friends. I got him some notes from when I went to an OTO conference and we met over coffee. We had a good time- enough for me to invite him to do something on Halloween. We went to a couple of different parties- most notably the big one at the mansion on Capital Hill where
babalonyieh lived.
Who knew our lives would become so intertwined? I had no clue. I'm glad each day that it's worked out so well.
Last night instead of staying home, I took Al out to an event. It was an interactive art installment and
a play called Innana's Descent. We journeyed to the Sumerian underworld and back. We got to have fun watching the play of Innana getting married and then descending to the underworld.
It all took place in a local park and has been running for a few weeks- with last night as the final installment. We picked up our "passports" and walked through the park, stopping to interact with the gods. One of them insisted that we write down what we thought the world needed. Of course Al had to write "bacon", which made her [and me] laugh. Another asked a series of questions about who we were and what things we were most attached to- and then we journeyed down a tunnel towards a shrine, leaving these pieces of ourselves behind.
We ended up at a fire pit, on some benches next to a friendly pitbull named Guster. In the end about 100 people were there for the performance. As we left it was pitch dark in the park, and found our way down the path from the light of other people's flashlights.
Then we came home and enjoyed the rest of our evening. It was just the right thing for going out on a work night.
