digging in

One of the best parts of the holiday break was the time I spent at home. I quickly got through the cleaning, regular stuff that needed to be done- and had time to really dig in to the house. I purged a bunch of books and just went through tons of stuff to see if I really needed it. I organized and arranged and decorated- it felt great! I hardly finished, but I found a bunch of things I forgot I even had.

This weekend I excavated a long term project I've been working on. I started it in our old house, and haven't looked at it for at least two years. It's the patchwork quilt I had dreams of making with my Grandmother's material. The stormy rainy weather was perfect for staying inside.

Well this weekend I finished all of my blocks and started piecing the top together. It's amazing to see it. I purchased the rest of the supplies- and now I only have to keep working on it.

I'm still daunted by the size of the project. I mean, I really don't know what I'm doing. But I have my books, and I read many articles- I just have to do it. I'm actually enjoying the process, in spite of it being really slow. I'm making tons of mistakes, but it isn't a big deal to fix them. It's a good test of my patience! It's relaxing to work with something purely for fun- knowing that if I screw it up it's still better than not working on it at all.

I'm getting a real pleasure from handling the fabric and seeing the colors come together. All the while I see pieces of familiar fabric that remind me of my Grandmother, and I feel like she's encouraging me to go ahead.
