When I started this journal I thought moving back to Australia and settling there was a foregone conclusion. I saw keeping a Live Journal as a great way to keep in touch with what my friends were up to, and having them all be aware of what I was doing. I thought this would allow me to re-integrate into social circles more easily once I got there. So much has changed since then.
At the end of the day I realised that all of my really good friends are people I keep in touch with outside of Live Journal. The time difference may make it difficult at times, but my really good friends are the ones I chat with over VOIP or IM. Reading the journals of people I do not talk to anymore is an odd sort of voyeurism. This is not high school anymore. I think knowing who my good friends are and making the effort to stay in touch with them is more important than having heaps of acquaintances. Due to the distance almost everyone on my friends list has become an acquaintance. I do not mean this as a criticism (I am certaintly not angry about it), it is just the way things are.
For my aquaintances: if I run into you in Sydney I would love to have at the very least a coffee and a good chat. Talking in person is far better than reading entries about shopping expeditions and parties. I would love the chance to REALLY catch up.
For my close friends: you will hear from me soon. I want you to know your efforts to stay in touch really mean something to me.
