Flyers, Comics, and Dog Poo

Well, it's been a somewhat interesting few days... Firstly, hope the arm tingliness goes away without ill effects, Jody, and both Doctor Who and Family Guy are cool, Jeanette--tough choice there. :-P Incidentally, I recommend getting a Facebook page, particularly if you want to see pics of Scrappy, as there are heaps up on my page. :-)

There's been a brief exchange of emails going on about flyer design for QSE's Metamorphoses. Rather than try to offer my vision like I did previously, I elected to take on more of a troubleshooting perspective. lol. So far, I think Jo is managing to oversee it all still, despite being in Barcelona--very impressive. At any rate, I think the front side seems more or less taken care of...

I returned and borrowed a few more graphic novels from the library; I can't remember if I mentioned Ultimate Fantastic Four: God War, but in case I already have, my write-up will be brief. The FF run into oddly similar alien seed soldiers from Halcyon, who are waging war against the death-worshipping Acheron empire--and the tyranny of Thanos (who is no longer a purple, wrinkly-chinned Titan). Very confusing to start with, but I eventually got into it; having Accuser Ronan as Thanos's son is an interesting twist, and the story runs along briskly with hints of comic book science craziness. The award for best and shortest new character goes to Thanos's other son, Gallowglass, whose body is comprised of explosive matter surrounded by a personal forcefield.

Ultimate X-Men: Magical proved a bit...pointless? Magician is an all-new X-Man character, whose powers seem like, well, magic. Unfortunately, when Professor X and Nick Fury finally get around to looking this gift horse in the mouth, things kind of...suck. Also, Rogue finally loses Gambit's powers, and poor Nightcrawler turns ever-so-slightly psychopathic from a combination of loneliness/attraction for Dazzler, homophobia at Colossus, and your usual mind-tampering from his time with Weapon X. Bugger. All this and the reason why Charles's cat is named Mystique.

The Road to Civil War is actually 3 separate but related stories. New Avengers: Illuminati is a surprisingly boring talk-fest about the 6 secret self-appointed bigwigs of the Marvel Universe, who take it upon themselves to solve crises, such as shooting the Hulk into space (leading into World War Hulk) and debating the value of superhuman registration (leading into Civil War--dumbasses). Yay for the big lead-up, but boo for more or less scarring the landscape of Marvel Comics. "The Hammer Falls" sees the return of Doctor Doom from Hell (literally) in an attempt to claim Thor's hammer from the FF, which fell into Oklahoma after the Twilight of the Gods/Ragnarok. Mostly this sets up Thor's eventual return, and animosity against Iron Man for making a killer robot Thor clone. "Mr Parker Goes to Washington" is the infamous story that introduces the Iron Spider costume--which I kind of liked, partially because it served a purpose and its days were numbered from the start. lol. Unfortunately, it's also the infamous issue which "explains away" Mary Jane's suddenly unbroken arm in a prior storyline--with Iron Man and Spidey looking at the reader in a "are you happy now?" sort of way... Oh, and Peter accompanies Tony to Washington to downplay a congressional hearing about the superhuman registration act--just before things all go to pot.

I also picked up 300, which turned out to be more faithfully translated to the big screen than I thought. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the film actually improves on the graphic novel with its additional material--including more clothing for the Spartan soldiers. lol. Still, quite a good read.

Meanwhile, I picked up a 2-DVD pack containing Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation today, after much rummaging through K-Mart and Big W. lol. I'd forgotten what the first movie was like. *reminisces* Strangely (or perhaps not so), the trailers are the best bits of both films. lol. I know it was one of the first movies to come out on DVD, but the menus for Annihilation are particularly bad on the eyes on the TV screen. But eh--I'm just pleased I have something to watch. :-P

Unfortunately, returning home afterwards to discover the dog had either done a second poo (or first if it turns out he was constipated in the garden earlier) was not good. :-/ 'Twas a slightly runny mess that I had to clean up, along with a wee by the door. *frowns* At least he had the sense to look suitably regretful about the whole experience while chewing his dental cleaning stick.

Anyhow, sleepiness prevails (as it is disturbingly wont to do lately with alarming frequency), so I'm gonna leave it there. I expect there'll be some FFXII gaming tomorrow, when my sister's not playing Kingdom Hearts II. lol.
