So I went and saw this band and couple others perform on Friday down at Eastern Michigan University. Oh, did I mention that I met some dudes from the headlining band?
It's been 4 days and I can't promise that this will, in fact, be coherent and mature. But I will try.
Stephanie is
_mydecember_ and Tobie is
apartment_19. Just for reference.
Also, I was wearing my ever so awesome Back to the Future shirt. This will be important later.
Anyways. I picked Stephanie up around 1:45 and we headed to Tobie's. Got Tobie then headed to Ypsilanti where we ran into construction (because it is the Detroit Metro Area. Of course there was construction) but whatever it was a nice day. Got to Eastern a little bit after 4:30 where we weren't sure if Stephanie and I would get into the meet and greet. Lucky for us that the line was still outside.
Got inside the venue, got our brightly colored wristbands (neon orange) and waited for them to take us where ever. Then we walked downstairs near the entrance to the football field and waited some more.
Then Fall Out Boy walked out and the first thing out of my mouth, because I am that awesome, was "they are so tiny!" I know and I've known that they were tiny but you don't realize it until you see them not on stage.
So Stephanie and I hung out in line until it was our turn. My meeting Fall Out Boy went a little something like this (Stephanie says I sounded like an adult):
Patrick: Hi!
Me: Hi!
Patrick: I really like your shirt. :D
Me: *squees quietly on the inside and looks down at my shirt like a dumbass* Thanks! :D
Then I moved on to Andy and just beamed at the rest of the band. I swear I looked like a crazy person. I had my
ticket stub signed. And yes, Patrick signs his signature as "P$".
Then we back in line for our pictures and I got stand next to Patrick.
That interaction went like this:
Patrick: Hi again!
Me: Hi! I really like your shoes. (His shoes were bright and silver and high tops and I was a little jealous.)
Patrick: Thanks! I think I'm going to have buy another pair because everyone likes them so much.
Me: Good luck tonight!
Patrick: Thank you so much! :D
Then we went back into line and went back up the stairs together like first graders.
We got back to merch area so Stephanie could buy merch and waited for the doors to open. Found Tobie, got water then headed downstairs for the show. I got another wrist band (green this time) and my ticket punched (they were really hardcore about the security on the floor) and we chilled out in the back for Hey Monday to start.
Hey Monday:
Were cute in this 'we're a newly minted band' kind of way. Cassadee was tiny and had a good voice (I was surprised) and the rest of her band sort of hung all over each other and her. I'm going to watch this band to see where they go in a few years because they have the talent just not the experience. Pete came out on one of their songs.
Cobra Starship:
Oh boy. It's still pretty awesome to see everyone throw their fangs up when they came out onstage and I think it still shocks the band to see how popular they are. Gabe was possibly drunk and definitely high but still highly entertaining. Victoria remains my favorite. Alex was absolutely adorable and so were Nate and Ryland. I really do love this band even if Gabe is creepy as hell.
We didn't want to see Metro Station or All Time Low so we went and sat in the lobby until Fall Out Boy's set. But, unfortunately, we could still hear Metro Station and their terrible cover of "Dead and Gone" by TI and Justin Timberlake. We were all "Uh. No." Seriously guys, FAIL SO HARD. It was during this time that I got approached by a bunch of people who told me my shirt was awesome.
Fall Out Boy:
I haven't seen the band in three years and they have gotten better since then. The show was amazing. Anyways. The whole MVP and their suits (and Patrick's wig) thing was first.
Which worked. I had heard good (and bad) things about it and I was just a little apprehensive about it but they did a good job. They played Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes and I died a little because that is one of my favorite songs off of Folie A Deux. Pete started preaching at us like it was an actual political rally (CAN I GET AN A-MEN?). They played a few more songs as the beaten up execs before they headed off stage to change.
They showed Pete changing while the other three were waiting for him. It was hilarious because Pete was going as fast as he could and they were all just chilling out and eating. Now I have no idea what Pete was talking about because every time he appeared on the screen, everyone started screaming.
They came back on stage and there was heads on shoulders (Grand Theft Autumn), dancing the box step around each other [(Coffee's for Closers)], and just generally being adorable (America's Suitehearts).
It was refreshing to see Patrick not attached to his mic! He bounced around the stage and participated in the banter with Pete. Pete gave away an octo drive and proceeded to tell us about how the male part of the drive goes into the female part of the computer. He also called Michigan the clitoris of the United States (I shit you not) and he couldn't finish the metaphor without laughing. Patrick couldn't even answer, he was laughing so hard.
After Pete stopped Saturday and pulled out his DAD VOICE to tell two people on the barrier to stop fighting and hug, we went and got into the crowd. It was an amazing feeling.
Then the show ended and we went to the IHOP near Tobie's apartment. I dropped Tobie and Stephanie off then went home and passed out.
The set list (in no particular order):
Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes
Thriller
Grand Theft Autumn (where I was reminded that Joe Trohman is a fucking rock star)
This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race
A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More "Touch Me"
I Don't Care (I was a fan of the light up guitar. Not going to lie.)
Tiffany Blews (I absolutely adore this song live)
She's My Winona (Patrick taught us the 'whoa-oh's)
Beat It
Hey Ya (we danced. it was either that or be called a robot.)
Sugar, We're Goin' Down (Cassadee came out on this song.)
What A Catch, Donnie (Gabe came out and caused Pete to laugh. Also, Patrick's voice was absolutely amazing on this song)
Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet
I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me
The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes
Thnks Fr Th Mmrs
Dance, Dance
(Coffee's For Closers)
America's Suitehearts
and finally (I think): Saturday
The rest of my weekend looked something like this:
- got up Saturday afternoon and drove back to Mt. Pleasant.
- Showered then fell asleep on my couch.
- Woke up and realized that I was going to be late to my friends' grad party.
- Ran around my apartment half naked while I got ready.
- Went to the party until about 2 am.
- Came home and slept for roughly 12 hours.
- Did absolutely nothing Sunday.
