So, even though my brother has moved out, about half (though probably more) of his wardrobe is now residing in a pile on a loveseat in our family room. He's gotten into the habit of coming over to do his laundry and then leaving while it's still in the washing machine

Kudos on not folding the laundry, but you shouldn't even do his laundry, IMHO. He's gotten into the habit of leaving because his clothes are getting washed with or without him there. So yeah, if he leaves a load in the washer, put them in the dryer (cause wet clothes = icky, possibly moldy clothes), but otherwise I'd just leave the dirty clothes in a pile and let him deal with the fact that they're dirty when he gets around to needing them. He'll learn.

I don't do his laundry. Like you said, I put them in the dryer, then dump them on the couch.
