TM 186: Religion

Jul 19, 2007 14:54

The most religious thing I have ever done is get married. And it wasn't very religious.

Religion wasn't a big thing in my house, growing up. It just wasn't important. In school and with the Buccaneers we'd say a prayer before a game but I never paid attention. I was thinking about the game, not the Lords.

Probably everybody thought about it after the attacks - either their relationship to the Lords became more important or they decided it was all a lie. I mean, it's just human nature, in the face of a disaster on that level. I was one of the later. What kind of council of greater powers - standing in judgment or not - allows the world to blow up? But then again, I was alive. And I realized I had to do something with my life.

And then I met Kara, who really believed. Believed so strongly she'd come back - left the relative safety of Galactica and come back to cylon infested Caprica on the off chance that some museum relic would lead their band of refugees to safety. But it wasn't an off chance to her. She had faith.

Which is the real thing. Religion is...rules, stories, a way to explain why things are the way they are. But faith...faith is the reason to keep going.
