A/N: This is what I call a “Therapy Story”. I think you’ll probably catch on to why once you start reading. Just something I started writing to make myself feel better, but I feel that quite the story is developing from this. I do not own anyone, but Charlee. All for fun. Please comment.
Disclaimer: I do not own Supernatural. I do not make any money from the making of this story.
Charlee was fed up with her life. It was a dead end, going nowhere and fast. Her husband, Danny, didn’t seem to care anymore. They were married for 5 years. She was 30, he was 28, and she wanted more than he could give her. So, she decided to just walk out and start her own life. She didn’t think it through before she did it. She just did it.
She packed up what she could into her Blazer then left. She stopped at the bank and emptied the checking account, all $300 of it. She knew it was enough to get her somewhere, she just didn’t know where. She didn’t want to paper trail for Danny to track her down with; she knew cash was the best way to go. He was a private investigator and knew how to find people, fast. Luckily, she had picked up on a few tricks of the trade in the 3 years he had been doing it.
She left around 10 am that morning, stopping only for gas and a pee break, grabbing sodas and snacks when she did stop. 24 hours later, she was still driving, but getting a little tired. She pulled over on the side of some back country road and got out to stretch her legs a bit.
About 4 hours later…
“Turn the car around, Dean!” Sam yelled as they passed a green and tan Blazer that was parked on the side of the road.
“Why?”
“Just turn around!” Sam said looking back over his shoulder at the truck.
Dean turned the Impala around and drove back to the truck. Sam looked out the window, “I knew it!” He jumped out of the car and ran towards the Blazer.
A woman was lying in the high grass on the roadside. Had it not been for the bright pink shirt she was wearing, Sam may not have even noticed her there when they drove by.
Sam kneeled beside her and brushed the brunette curls from her face. His breath hitched slightly. He didn’t want to believe what he was seeing. He placed his fingers to the pulse point on her neck. He breathed a sigh of relief, she was alive.
Dean had walked up behind him. Sam turned and looked up at him, “She’s alive.” Sam’s lower lip trembled a bit, he was thankful Dean didn’t notice.
“That’s good to know. Don’t think I could deal with anymore dead bodies today.” Dean said sarcastically. They had just cleaned out a vampire nest and were headed towards Kentucky, when they came across this in southern Arkansas.
“Dean seriously.” Sam turned back to the woman. He brushed his hand over her cheek. She moaned softly at the touch, which sent chills down Sam’s spine. “Miss? Miss? Are you awake?”
Charlee slowly opened her eyes then sat up suddenly and scooted back from the man who was beside her. “Who… What happened?” She didn’t know where she was, why she was laying on the ground or who this man was that was touching her. “Where am I?” She asked with a shaky voice.
“Shreveport, Louisiana… or near abouts. We just came from there.” Sam told her calmly.
“Who are you?”
“I’m Sam; this is my brother, Dean.” He motioned to the man who was standing behind him that she didn’t even notice until now. She just looked at them, not noticing how handsome they were because she was so scared.
“Do you remember anything?” Sam asked.
She closed her eyes and touched her head. She thought to her self that her hair was such a mess and probably full of dirt and bugs, but she managed to tell them what she remembered: Leaving her husband, driving, stopping on the roadside.
“That’s it?” Dean asked. Charlee nodded.
Sam looked up at Dean then back to her. He stood up and Charlee looked up at him, realizing how tall he was. Sam held out his hand to her to help her up. She took the offered hand and stood, but didn’t let go until she regained her balance. She looked up at him again, now that she was on her feet. Sam was at least a foot taller than she was. She glanced over at her truck, then to Sam and Dean.
“I’m starting to think, that maybe, I just passed out from being so tired. A few ours sleep should be good.”
Sam nodded, “Why don’t I ride with you until we can find a motel?”
Charlee pulled out her cell phone and looked at the time display, 1532, which was 3:32 in the afternoon. She started to wonder just how long she was passed out on the side of the road and how many people just passed her by. She gave Sam a small smile. She didn’t know why but she felt like she could trust him.
“I have a better idea,” Sam looked at her expectantly, waiting for her idea. Dean cocked his head ready to hear it, as well. “You drive.” She looked Sam in the eye. She really didn’t feel well enough to drive.
“Ok,” Sam agreed, “keys?”
Charlee looked in the passenger side window of her truck, “Ignition”, she nodded towards the truck.
Sam walked around to the driver side. Dean walked to his car, which Charlee eyed a bit before opening the passenger side door. She thought it was a gorgeous car.
She moved her duffel bag to the back seat and threw her trash into the floor board at her feet. She wasn’t the tidiest person in the world, but it would suffice until she got around to cleaning out her truck. She buckled herself in and reclined the seat back a bit. Sam started up the truck and pulled out on the road.
“So, Sam, what are you and your brother doing out in the middle of nowheres?” She watched him as he answered.
“We were, um, visiting some friends in Shreveport.”
Charlee knew he was lying. She could tell. Just a skill she picked up from her husband. She didn’t say anything to Sam though. She thought that maybe he didn’t want her to know that he had a girlfriend or something. She just nodded and turned in the seat to look at Dean following. He looked good in that car, like it was built around him. She turned back around and decided to continue with casual conversation.
“Where you from?” She asked him.
“Originally?” He returned a question, Charlee nodded, “Kansas, but we moved around a lot, don’t really call anywhere home.” Charlee was a bit intrigued.
“So, you and your brother just drive around? Where ever you lay your head is home?”
“Sort of.” He shrugged.
Charlee left it at that, hoping that her head wasn’t tricking her into trusting these men. So, she asked another question.
“How old are you?”
“I’ll be 25 next month.” Charlee smiled at that, Oh, a young one, she thought to herself. She sat and took in his looks a little more now. He was very cute and had dimples that popped with out him really smiling much. She thought about it for a second and remembered that Danny had dimples, too. Maybe she had some kind of dimple fetish if there was such a thing. Sam’s lips were practically perfect and he had the sweetest eyes. She just watched him as he drove, until he broke her gaze with a question of his own.
“What’s your name?”
“Oh, I’m sorry,” Charlee wiped the drool from her the corner of her mouth. Sam smiled making the dimples a very prominent feature on his face, “Charlee, my name is Charlee, C-H-A-R-L-E-E.”
“Charlee?” He asked as if he never met a female named Charlee before.
“Yeah, my name is Charlene, but everyone has always just called me Charlee.”
“I think it is a cute name. You look like a Charlee.”
She smiled, “Thanks.”
Sam actually thought a different name fit her better, but he was thankful that her name was Charlee. He would occasionally look over at her when she wasn’t looking at him and he was quite flattered to have her attention. When she fell asleep he had a hard time watching the road because he couldn’t stop looking at her. She was beautiful.
When Sam pulled up to the hotel, Dean pulled up beside him and motioned that he would go and get the rooms for them. It was 5pm and Charlee was tired and needed a bed. Sam brushed his hand over her cheek, his fingers softly touched her ear, “Charlee, wake up.”
Her eyes fluttered opened and she smiled at Sam, “Hey we’re here,” he said softly returning the smile.
She stretched her arms over her head, which cause her shirt to ride up a bit, exposing her stomach. She quickly grabbed the hem of her shirt and pulled it down, feeling slightly embarrassed.
Sam got out of the truck and then Charlee got out opening the back passenger side door retrieving her bag. As she turned around, Dean was standing behind her with her key card for her room, “I got you a room right next door to ours, and they said that they were adjoining rooms.”
Charlee took the key with a sleepy smile, “Thanks.”
Sam handed her back her truck keys, “Get some sleep, you need it.”
“What I need is a hot shower. I feel so dirty after laying in the grass for who knows how long.” She took the keys and headed toward her room. She could feel both sets of eyes on her as she walked away. When she got to the door, she inserted the key card, turned and smiled at the boys before walking inside.
Dean and Sam watched as she went inside and closed the door, before getting their bags from the Impala and going to their own room. Sam sighed a bit as he hitched his bag over his shoulder.
“If you are so worried about her, Sam, go stay with her in her room.” Dean said as he opened the door to the room
“Shut up, Dean!” Sam huffed as he followed Dean inside and dropped his bag in the closest bed.
“What’s her name anyways?”
“Charlee” Sam replied as he sat down on the bed. Dean gave an accepting nod and laid back on the bed, before grabbing the remote and turning on the TV.
Charlee laid her bag on one of the beds and unlocked the adjoining door, just out of courtesy in case they wanted to check in on her, which she didn’t mind at all, particularly Sam. She stripped down and headed right for the bathroom for a long hot shower.

After washing her hair and body about 4 times, to rid herself of the roadside grime, Charlee got out and started drying off when she heard Sam’s voice, “Charlee?”
“Just got out of the shower.” She yelled as she wrapped her hair up in a towel.
“Ok”, he replied sitting on the edge of the bed.
She attempted to cover herself with the hotel towels, but they were too small for her D cups and size 10 body. The towels looked like they were made for a size 4. She stuck her head out of the bathroom door, “ Sam, you can either bring me my bag or you get to see me naked. Sam groaned, then Dean’s voice rang out as he came into Charlee’s room with a silly grin on his face.
“I heard the words Sam and naked in the same sentence.”
“Clothes please!” She yelled.
Sam stood up from the bed, “I’ll just wait in the other room. Knock when you are dressed.” Sam grabbed Dean’s arm and pulled him back into their room.
Charlee laughed at the scene that unfolded in front of her and once the door was closed she went to her bag and pulled out a pair of Sponge Bob pajama pants and a white tank top. Since she knew she would be going to bed soon, she didn’t bother putting on a bra.
Dean grinned like a fool as he laid back on the bed. Sam leaned against the door and glared at Dean.
“What?” Dean asked responding to Sam’s glare.
Sam took a deep breath, “Leave her alone, Dean.”
“You like her, Sammy?” He asked with a grin.
Sam didn’t reply, just continued glaring at his brother until he heard Charlee’s knock. Dean smiled as Sam turned and opened the door.
She still had her hair up in a towel. Sam smiled at her, “Um, Charlee, can I talk to you about some stuff?”
“Sure, but I thought you told me to get some sleep.” Charlee said smiling.
“Maybe it can wait.” Sam turned away heading for the other room.
“We can talk for a bit if you want.” Charlee grabbed his arm before got to far.
“Ok” Sam walked the rest of the way into the room, shutting and locking the adjoining door, on Charlee’s side, behind him. He sat on the edge of the bed and Charlee sat down beside him. She noticed , by the look on his face, that something was bothering him. “I’ve been thinking about something.” Charlee nodded for him to continue, “You just walked out on your husband, no plan and very little money. What are you going to do?”
Charlee shook her head, “I don’t know. I really don’t know. But, to be honest, I don’t miss Danny at all.”
“How long were you married?”
“5 years.”
“No kids?”
“Nope, guess God never intended for us to have any.” Charlee sighed. She always wanted kids, but never got any of her own, only a niece and a nephew from her little brother.
Sam just nodded, “So, um, what are you do, just keep driving? Living in your truck?”
Charlee shrugged, “Like I said, I have no idea. I didn’t really think this through before I left.”
They sat in an awkward silence for a few moments. Sam seemed to be deep in thought. Charlee watched him, wondering where exactly this conversation was going.
“Are you open minded?” Sam broke the silence.
“To what?” Charlee asked with a slight smile. She was very open minded to anything. She loved hearing what other people’s opinions were on different topics and offering up her own. Nothing really could shock her. She has seen and done some things other people may not completely agree with.
“Anything, everything,” Sam said seeming a bit uneasy.
“Sure, why?” Charlee didn’t want to make this any harder on him than it already seemed to be.
“I wasn’t completely honest with you earlier and it’s killing me.”
“I know, I could tell you were lying.” Charlee told him with a small smile.
“Really?”, Sam asked wanting to know how she could pick up on his lie.
“Yeah, you hesitated with your answer and you were blinking a bit more than usual when you spoke.”
“Wow, that’s good.” He gave her an impressed smirk.
“Danny was a PI. I learned a few tricks.” Charlee explained, Sam seemed genuinely impressed.
“So, what did you need to tell me?” She asked, switching back to the subject of the conversation.
“Well, Dean and I, we…” Sam started, but Charlee’s eyes went wide.
“I thought you were brothers?” She normally could spot a gay guy in a crowd of people from 1000 feet away.
“Oh we are.. Oh God no.. I didn’t mean.” Sam turned red and the dimples popped out.
“I’m sorry.” Charlee suddenly felt embarrassed herself for jumping to that conclusion.
“It’s ok, no harm done,” he laughed slightly, knowing that it wasn’t the first time and probably not the last time someone would mistake him and his brother for a gay couple. Although, he really hated when it happened.
Charlee nodded, feeling a bit relieved of her idiot status.
“Charlee..”, he looked her in the eyes, “There are things out there that aren’t good, evil things, demons, vampires, werewolves…”
Charlee looked at him, “Really?” She believed him. She didn’t see one sign of a lie in his eyes or on his face.
“Yeah, and Dean and I hunt them, kill them if we can.” His eyes were wide, unblinking and just screamed the truth at her.
“Wow.” She was completely stunned at the information that just hit her brain, but non-the-less, she knew he was telling her the truth, ”Sounds dangerous?”
“It is at times, he chuckled a bit, “Actually, all the time.”
“So what were you hunting in Shreveport?”
“Vampires”
“Oh wow!”
“You don’t seemed freaked out in the least bit by this.”
Charlee shook her head no. Sam looked at her completely surprised by her reaction.
“I’ve always believed there were ungodly things in the world. Just never seen them with my own eyes.”
“I have, its not pretty.”
“Why did you want to tell me this?” Charlee asked feeling there was more to what he wanted to tell her.
He looked down at his feet, “You being alone out there actually scares the hell out of me.”
Charlee’s jaw dropped, “We just met, Sam, and you are saying you care about me?” He didn’t look up, but nodded.
“You are a sweet, Sam.” She told him with a smile, although he didn’t see or respond to the compliment. “Are you ok?” He nodded again.
“You remind me of my ex-girlfriend. Only she was blonde and a little taller than you. But everything else is almost her exactly; your face.” He looked up at Charlee and brought his hand up to her cheek. “You have her face.” His eyes began to tear up, but no tears fell. He slowly moved his hand away from her face.
“What happened?” Charlee had a feeling it was something quite traumatic considering his emotions.
“She died a little over 3 years ago.” He wanted to cry, Charlee could see it. “When I saw you laying there in the grass, I didn’t know what to do at first. When I realized you were alive, I felt like I had a chance to start over again. I never told her about my life, so I wanted to tell you, like I was making it right.”
Charlee was on the verge of crying herself. Her soft hearted, kind nature wanted to comfort him. “Do you think she would have believed you?”
“I don’t know.”
“I believe you, Sam.” She smiled and placed her hand over his on the bed. “What was her name?”
“Jessica.” His eyes were so full of emotion Charlee knew then that he loved Jessica very much. She wanted to hug him, but was a little unsure what his reaction would be. So, she moved closer to him and wrapped her arm around him as much as she could. He was very muscular and her little 5’3” self was tiny next to him.
He accepted the hug and his lips touched her neck. Charlee’s eyes closed instinctively and a shiver passed through her. She liked the way it felt. He pulled back a bit and Charlee opened her eyes. Her brown eyes looking into his green ones. Neither of them spoke for a moment, then he leaned forward and kissed her. It was soft and passionate. Charlee could feel the love that he had for Jessica in the kiss. He pulled the towel from her head and ran his hands through her damp, curly hair; gently releasing the tangles as he did. Charlee could already tell that Sam was an amazing guy.
She pulled back from the kiss, “Sam, I’m not Jessica.” She wanted him to know it was her, Charlee and not Jessica, but didn’t want to break his heart. He released her and started to stand.
“I’m sorry. I got a little carried away.”
“Don’t be,” Charlee reached for him and tugged him back down, “Technically, I’m still married, but I don’t want to go back. You have shown me more care and wanting than Danny has in the past year. Plus, if you could love me as much as you loved Jessica, I’d never ask for anything more from you. You have don enough already.” Sam just looked at her with a blank look. She wasn’t sure what was going through his mind. “Can you love me, Charlene Marie Johnson?” She used her maiden name when she asked.
Sam smiled softly and looked at her in the eyes, “I think I can get used to that.” His hand came up to her cheek again, “Can you love me, Samuel Francis Winchester?”
Charlee smiled and nodded, “I think it can be arranged.” Then he kissed her. She placed her hand on his face as he had done to her. She felt like she could kiss this man forever and she had just met him. She wondered what she was getting herself into.
