You Will Remember This
Eli at the bus stop under her pink and green Yorkie umbrella. Her pants too short. She wears her soft pink t-shirt and preppy green sweater that I got her at the last minute before our cruise; she and her umbrella accidentally match. She is delighted by the rain because it means she can put the Yorkie umbrella to use at last. She wants to ride the bus in the morning and not be driven so she can be with her friends. But she's still little enough not to care if her pants are too short. She's long and tall without a speck of baby fat. Just as I pull away, a black girl with amazing puffball hair herself reaches out to feel Eli's hair, which looks especially red in the low morning light.
