I am determined to post something un-gloomy. So, hey! How about that old song I learned in Girl Scouts? About the gunslinging Miss Eppie?
Well Miss Eppie had a date
with a wrestling heavy weight.
When he tried a fancy hold
She did not appreciate
She took out her pistol
and shot him in the knee
and then gave her only plea.
I didn't know the gun was loaded
and I'm so sorry, my friend.
I didn't know the gun was loaded
and I'll never ever do it again.
Turns out it's by the Andrews Sisters. And of course she does do it again. And again. A damn shame they don't teach kids this song. Plucky heroine says no! You could do worse.
I know, I know. GUNS. BAD. Etc. That's why my girls won't ever learn it. Well, that and the fact that I couldn't pay them to join Girl Scouts. But it's a fun song, catchy. On my deathbed I'll still be able to sing the chorus, same as with the nursery school songs I learned in Germany about Mannheim burning and the colors my sweetheart wears. SIGH.
