Severus has never heard Gillian scream like that, but it's nothing compared to the wet, hollow silence when she stops.
He recognizes the thing with its hand in her chest; Angelov recognizes that as predators go, he's just pissed off one that outclasses him. The end of it is unsatisfyingly quick, even for the way he makes it burn. (Fuck the nexus.)
Gillian's eyes are still open, wide and shocked as someone who'd been given no time to catch her mind up to the fact this fucking place had betrayed her and brought back what the sisters had destroyed. He closes them, lifts her bloody and broken and carries her home. He takes her ruined clothes to be burned, and washes her clean before he wraps her in his own robe and lays her down.
And then, finally, he waits.
He waits, and he does not move.
(Seven hours later, she chokes on her own breath and rolls sideways to cough blood out of her lungs, wretched with the inability to even sob for the pain and not yet understanding what's happened to her. Severus puts her through a dozen or more tests to be sure, and when he is, he threads his fingers through her hair and holds her against him for so long that exhaustion has her mostly asleep by the time he's willing to let her go a little.
All through, he never wept.)
