"Well, fantastic," was what Jinki said as he started the car and smiled at his two friends who secretly stole the occasional looks at each other.
And so Kibum, Jinki, and the new addition of a fascinatingly handsome guy named Jonghyun, made their way back to the shop. It was awkward, Kibum had noted. Jonghyun was, first, sitting in his seat that was his for as long as he could remember. And second, God, some of his luggage was on his lap and resting under his arms and there was a very, very nice scent coming from the suitcases. It was difficult to keep his twitching fingers from pulling down the zippers and digging in for the source. He let out a forced sigh, drawing an odd stare from Jinki in the mirror.
"You all right?" he asked, and Kibum only nodded, attempting to scratch his nose coolly.
"I feel bad though," Jinki continued, "since you just left poor Taemin at the shop by himself."
Kibum rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath, "I would ditch Taemin in a dark city alley if I were to-"
"What was that?"
"Nothing."
Jonghyun then laughed - charmingly - and he asked who this Taemin was, and Kibum groaned dramatically. Jinki then went on for about half of the trip back, beginning and ending his description of "their Taemin" as ridiculously cute and lovable. His friend only nodded as he tried to picture this boy, which really wasn't that hard, since Jinki was catapulting the tiniest details at Jonghyun, and if his hands weren't on the wheel trying to barely get them back in one piece with his shoddy driving, Jinki would have been drawing - or sculpting, since Kibum noticed that he was being oddly romantic today with his words - an accurate portrait of Taemin. It was then a two minute drive of Jinki sighing, moaning, banging his head against the wheel, and whimpering softly to himself.
"Sorry," Kibum then cut into the one-man show, "he's being really weird today." He reached over, almost intentionally brushing his hand against Jonghyun's shoulder, but not really since he wasn't that pathetic enough to feel a stranger up, and punched Jinki on the chest. Jinki sat upright and gasped when he realized that they were finally at their little shop. He let his head droop again.
"Kibum, what am I gonna do?" he drawled as he let his head fall back, big eyes staring up, almost tearing. Kibum pursed his bottom lip and caressed his face, not really noticing then that Jonghyun was there, watching Kibum's lips and the way his thin fingers pet Jinki's cheeks, and he said, "Do what you do everyday. Just...not as lamely."
Then Jinki covered his face with his hands and screamed through sweating fingers, "You know how impossible that is for me!" and Kibum replied with a "True."
With all the energy he could muster, Jinki grumbled, "Groceries later. Take out the bags." And then he fell back into a daze.
Jonghyun was the first to tap Jinki back into the present, saying something like, "I'm starving", but Jinki refused to move from the leather seat that was beginning to crinkle under his weight. So Jonghyun shrugged and stepped out of the car and made a move to grab the luggage from the back.
But when he opened the door, all he saw was Kibum's ass in the air as he still continued to try and snap Jinki out of his dazed state. Jonghyun silently gulped away his nerves and tapped the seat to get his attention. Kibum craned his neck to look behind him and, a few seconds later, realized how embarrassing of a position he was in, and quickly sat his ass down, conveniently on one of Jonghyun's particularly hard suitcases. He cringed.
"Here," Kibum grunted as he kicked the other door open and began to gracefully place half of the - heavenly smelling - luggage onto the sidewalk. He crawled out, again not realizing then that Jonghyun was actually not moving at all and simply staring at his hips, and began to heave and roll the bags away.
Jinki was still doubled over in his seat, trying to regain his composure, but failing horribly.
"Hey, Kibum hyung! You're back early!"
The angelic voice snapped Jinki out of his trance. He sat upright and snapped his head to the left. Taemin was standing there, apron balled up in a fist as he waved enthusiastically at Kibum and the newcomer. Jinki suddenly felt left out and dejected.
"Jinki hyung, what're you doing in the car by yourself?" Taemin called out, worry etched on his figures. Jinki smiled weakly and waved back.
"Moping," Kibum muttered under his breath, loud enough for Taemin to hear. He gave Kibum a questioning look; he could be so enigmatic sometimes.
Jonghyun took one step over the stairs to the door and flashed Taemin a smile. "Hey. You must be Taemin, right?" Taemin simply nodded. It didn't take long to realize that the man before him was Jonghyun, so Taemin didn't ask, not because his mouth was glued shut by the heat and embarrassment that seemed to have filled him up right then and there. No, not at all.
Kibum scanned the shop - no customers - and sighed loudly. He never was a sloucher, but he was good at belting out sighs when necessary. Rolling the luggage at his sides, he called out to behind him, "I'll put all of this upstairs so we can drive you over once we're done with our shifts." Jonghyun gave him a short reply of thanks, and Kibum could've sworn that Taemin was screwing with him and had turned the heat up by a lot in the shop while they were gone.
As he made his way up the stairs, Kibum slowed in his steps to throw a glance over his shoulders. Jonghyun was standing coolly in the middle of the store, one hand in his pockets and the other busy tousling his hair to give it his messy look. Realizing just how odd he looked for staring, the boy shook his head wildly and focused on the intoxicating matters at - rather, in - hand.
Then he stopped in his steps completely and stood upright.
"Hey, this is your shit!"
Kibum then wanted to cover his mouth with his hands, but they were preoccupied, so he just left his mouth hanging as Jonghyun turned around with a quizzical look on his face. And when it clicked for him, he threw his head back to let out a laugh. Jonghyun began to animatedly snicker at Kibum's outburst, traces of, "So funny" and "Oh god" thrown here and there. Kibum felt his face grow redder by the second and he muttered under his breath, "Jack ass."
Fixing himself up, Jonghyun made his way to the stairs with a content smile on his face, and he chuckled, "Sorry. I don't usually get yelled at like that."
Kibum huffed and retorted with one hand dropping a bag to move to his hips, "Spoiled?"
He shook his head no, the smirk still radiating a smug sense of pleasure. "Well, usually people are polite enough to just keep their mouths shut about little stuff like this." And after he took four, five steps to reach Kibum, he continued, "But I like that. Your bluntness."
Kibum would have curtsied, but he felt that that would be a bit too strong of an action for a - really hot, he had to remind himself - stranger. "Thanks," was all he said before he tossed a lighter bag at Jonghyun.
"Hey you two, why are you so slow?" They turned around to see a rather disheveled Jinki stagger into the doorway as he tripped over the small step into the store like he always did, and Kibum simply rolled his eyes. "Jonghyun, let me take that. You should go sit down."
"Nah, it's all good. No need to pamper me." He smirked and side-stepped past a rather bewildered Kibum who couldn't even muster the energy to look to his left and throw vehement glares.
Jinki sensed some sort of tension - which was funny to Kibum, because he had missed out on the majority of the occassion and was usually really bad with atmospheres - and raised his hand. "You guys okay?" Luckily, Jonghyun was out of ear shot by the time he had voiced his concern, so Kibum simply stared with half-mast eyes and grumbled,
"He's not as perfect as you'd said."
--
Taemin stared at his feet. He had taken his apron off, and even his sweater, yet for some reason he felt like he was sweltering under his t-shirt that hung loosely off of his shoulders. He didn't dare look up, though, because Jonghyun was sitting there, sipping at an iced coffee that Jinki brewed for him. Whether he actually wanted to say something or not, Taemin figured that he lacked the courage, so he simply stood there and shuffled his feet.
Then Jonghyun stopped sipping and looked at his direction, eyebrows raised. "You know," Jonghyun smiled, "Jinki's told me a lot about you."
With wide eyes, Taemin looked up at the older boy and stuttered, "R-Really? Good things?"
He was surprised by Jonghyun's laugh, and as he began to say, "Yeah, actually he's really-", Kibum had swiftly come by and smacked Jonghyun on the leg, almost a bit too affectionately. The two stared at Kibum who seemed just as suspicious of the two as they were of him. But only Jonghyun got the hint - obviously, Kibum noted - and he spoke, just a tad bit slower in his speech, "Err, yeah, a lot of good things. I can tell that you're a nice kid." Kibum sighed in relief behind his hand.
Taemin blushed, a barely audible "Thank you" escaping his lips.
"I'm bushed!" Jinki cried out loud, accompanied by a "Whoa!" as he tripped over the step, again. "Well, I'm finished."
Kibum applauded and Jinki took a bow, the wide smile expressing his feeling of accomplishment. As he watched the two, Jonghyun smiled quietly to himself and shook his head, shoulders shaking from the silent laughter.
"You two," he said before he cut himself off with a laugh. Kibum turned his head to face him, an innocent, questioning look on his face that threw Jonghyun off guard. He shook his head again. "You're just alike, you two."
"Oh." Then Kibum's face fell. "Wow, thanks."
Jinki laughed loudly, finding it amusing for some reason, and clapped twice to get their attention. "Since the car's loaded again, we should get back to my house. It's gotten pretty late, after all." Jonghyun nodded and he jumped off of his seat before turning around to face Kibum with an extended hand.
The other stared at the hand with a confused look.
"Aren't you coming with?" Jonghyun asked. And Kibum glanced up at him. He bit his lip to stifle the snort that was threatening to spill out. Taking the outstretched hand, Kibum pulled himself off and threw him a smirk.
"Quite the gentleman. But really, I was going to help myself." Kibum let go of the rather tight hand and made his way out of the shop, calling out, "Taemin, we'll drop you off!" Jonghyun followed suit with his hands stuffed into his pockets. He started some light conversation, to which Kibum laughed quietly with much amusement.
Taemin stared out at Kibum and Jonghyun who had their backs turned and nodded with a small smile on his face.
"Sure!"
Jinki leaned back against the door frame and, for once, smiled with a sense of poise. "All right, c'mon. We'll get you there before your bed time." And as Taemin walked past him after locking the door, Jinki held his hand out to pat him on the back, but the smaller boy was too quick and had whizzed right past him to catch up with the other two.
With an awkward smile in place, Jinki jumped down the stairs, not tripping this time, and ran to the car to catch the embarrassing story of him - "Hey!" - that Kibum was telling.

I wanted to make this longer, but I think I'll just try to get another chapter up by Sunday or something, ha ha. Comments are always loved and appreciated.
