"Who're you texting?" Kibum asked as he leaned over the counter to peep over Jinki's shoulder.  He had been suspicious of him, wondering if he was sexting like Dongho had been accused of doing a while back.  The poor boy tried living it down in front of them all but Kibum always found a way to bring it up, always found a way to make the young boy stammer and slip into a rough accent.

"I-d-k, my b-f-f Jonghyun?"

Kibum blinked at him.  He opened his mouth to say something, shut it because his friend would find it offensive, and tried again, uttering,

"That is really, really old."  Jinki looked over his shoulder and stared at him with questioning eyes.  Apparently he thought it was still in.  Kibum let out a sigh.  "Jonghyun? Who's that?"

"Just someone," Jinki lied, obviously - he had a little twitch when he lied about something, blatantly apparent to all of his friends - and stuffed his cell phone into his back pocket.  He twirled his thumbs.  "Why, interested?"  He had expected something out of Kibum, some spark, some jolt, because he loved it when Kibum was hung up over something.  It was one of the best feelings he could have, because he never catches Kibum flushed or anything of the sort.

However he bluntly said, "No," and Jinki was immediately disappointed.  Maybe a picture was necessary.  Or some voice recording.  After all, he did know that Jonghyun had a fantastic voice.  "I'll have you know that I'm trying to lay off on dates.  This job's killing me."

The two of them stared around the sandwich shop, where three girls were sitting at a booth, chattering and giggling behind their hands as they stole quick looks at the two employees.  A mother and son were munching on some potato chips and the son was singing a song he had learned in his English class today, his mother trying to follow along by clapping.  One business man was quickly downing his chilled coffee and, soon enough, he was out, his legs almost a gray blur as he checked his wristwatch in intervals of five seconds.  Kibum scratched his ear.

"Okay, it's not that busy, but I need some money to pay off that bill."  He groaned, exhausted from all of the sandwich cutting and cashier work.  Jinki patted him on the head, and his head lolled into the touch.

"Oh, our poor Kibum," he crooned, a silly look plastered on his face.  "I think he needs a break."  Kibum's head shot up and his eyes were wide, anticipating, wondering if his friend was serious or just being a bitch again.  "But manager won't let us."  And he let his head down again, this time onto the cold countertop.  Jinki exhaled loudly.

"That T-" Jinki's phone vibrated and instantly he cut Kibum out of his life, his thumb flying over the keys and the touch screen, tongue sticking out, eyes focused.  When we say flying, of course, it's a limited speed, and he gives out midway on the occasion.  Kibum then takes the opportunity to read what he types up and he did so just then, chin resting on Jinki's left shoulder.

'I can't wait to see you!  Make sure to bring everything with you.  Forget the cat, though.

Miss you lots ha ha'

and at the end there was Jinki's tacky little signature -  "Dubu~ nom nom" - attached.  Kibum smirked.

"Someone getting laid tonight?" he muttered, catching the slight tone of jealousy and resentment in his own voice.  That was bad.  Jinki didn't seem to notice it because his slow thumb was struggling to press the "send" button.  And it was only when he succeeded that he spun on his heels, apron flapping around him.  His eyebrows were raised, and his cheeks were tinted with a slight pink.

"God, no," Jinki stuttered, "we're not like that.  Friends from music school."  Kibum nodded, too bored to poke fun at his cracking voice.  "Well whatever, he's coming for a stay because-"

The door creaked open and the cute heart-shaped bells jingled in the air.  Jinki stopped mid-sentence and stared in the general direction of the entrance and smiled, "like a goof," Kibum would describe, just to keep his language PG.  Kibum rolled his eyes at Jinki's actions; it was so obvious that he was in love, yet the victim of Jinki's passionate, unrelenting, rather secret love never took notice.

Jinki greeted the boy with a shaky, "H-hey, Taemin-ah!" and the boy smiled so cutely even Kibum melted a bit.  He was a high school student, barely looking like one, with a neat bowl-cut and a thin body, the perfect combo that drew all eyes to him.  The mother stopped feeding her child and stared in admiration, and the three girls shrieked in their seats, feet stomping to express their overflowing joy.  Taemin didn't notice any of that.  Actually, Kibum noted, he never really noted anything unless it was directed at him, face to face.  There were brief moments where he could catch things in an instant, where he wasn't as dense.  Jinki was not one of those things.

"Jinki-hyung, Kibum-hyung," Taemin smiled brightly, his eyes twinkling.  "How was your day?"  Kibum shrugged and Jinki just laughed nervously, rubbing the side of his face with his knuckles.  Kibum elbowed him to stop it.

"It was good," Kibum eventually said, just to break the tension between the three of them because, God, it was getting really awkward here.  Taemin was a kid meant for socializing, as was Jinki, but the latter of the two was just too stupid and so in love, and sometimes Kibum liked poking fun at him for that.

This is why they were friends.

"How was yours?" Jinki asked, busying his eyes with the vegetable shredder that Kibum had bought one day - he described it as "amazing" and "the best thing in the 21st century" - and so Taemin went on to describe his day, plopping down on a spinning chair at the counter right next to Jinki.  Jinki shifted his weight from one foot to another uncomfortably.  The younger boy rambled on about history class and math, how his friend almost fell asleep right next to him and how the teacher had thrown a dirty eraser at his direction but had almost hit Taemin instead.  Kibum almost laughed at that, reminding him of the old days, when Jinki would get hit straight in the nose whenever his own history teacher had aimed for him.

Jinki nodded along with what he was saying, sometimes taking his eyes off of the machine and glancing at Taemin, ever so quickly, just to steal a quick look.  "Yeah, sometimes classic literature is-" He was interrupted once more and again his fingers were flying for a good ten seconds, just enough for him to send his urgent message.  Jinki threw his apron off and shoved it into Kibum's unsuspecting arms and he sprinted for the coat hanger.

"Sorry, guys!" he huffed while he pulled on his coat and scarf.  "Jonghyun's at the station and I can't keep him waiting.  I'll be back soon!"  So Jinki left, taking one last look at Taemin, blushing when he realized that he was, and burst through the door to his car parked in the front.  Kibum blinked and dropped the apron on the ground.

"Jerk," Kibum muttered under his breath.  "Leaving me here..."  Taemin caught his whisper - see, this was when he noticed little things - and he said, "You should go with him to keep him company!  The station's far away, and I'm sure you need a break."  Kibum's pleading eyes made Taemin laugh.  "I'll tell my dad, don't worry."

Kibum wrapped his arms around Taemin's thin waist and hugged him.  "Thanks so much, Taemin-ah!" he sang, and he too dropped his navy blue apron on the counter.  Right when Jinki had started the engine, Kibum shouted out while bolting down the small steps, "Wait for me, jackass!"

Taemin grinned quietly to himself and made his way around the counter, unaware of the heated stares from the customers.  A group of college students walked in, and immediately comments were flying out of the girls' mouths on how cute Taemin was and how they wanted everything on the menu.  He only laughed and bowed, thanking them for their patronage, saying that their order would be ready soon.

He stared down at the tiled floor of the kitchen.  He was lonely without his two hyungs in the shop.  The dainty shop was small and warm and usually filled with quiet, subdued dialogue and hushed emotions, but it was never all that much fun without the other employees.  Especially Jinki.

Taemin stopped at his work.  And well, he reasoned, Kibum-hyung, too.

He noticed the crumpled apron that belonged to Jinki on the floor, which Kibum had so carelessly thrown, and so he stooped down, dusted it clean against his stomach, and folded it neatly, crisply, making sure it looked nice.  Taemin then placed it on a far corner of the counter, fingers lingering a bit.  He blinked three times and shook his head, focusing on the order at hand.

-

Jinki stared out to the road ahead of him, the cute charms that Kibum had bought for him dangling in his view from the mirror.  "Why are you here again?" he asked gruffly.  Kibum ignored the cold tone in his demanding question and simply said, "Because I wanna."  Jinki sighed out loud and turned up the music, a catchy, bubble-gum pop song that they both knew.  Kibum began to dance in his seat, hands waving and feet stomping to the beat.  His friend laughed; how he knew all of these dances to girl songs was beyond JInki's capability of understanding.

The road began to clear little by little and soon Jinki was revving down the streets, down the busy city to reach the station.  Kibum had switched stations and was singing along to a ballad, to which Jinki laughed, saying he sounded like a nasally rat when squeaking out the high pitches.  Kibum smacked him on the shoulder, getting an "Ouch, that hurt!" out of him.

"You know, that seat's going to be where Jonghyun sits from now on."  Kibum tried to put on his best "Oh, so sad!" face but failed in the process because the face Jinki makes when mouthing words is probably the funniest thing he gets to see in his normal days.  "Really, though.  He's gotta sit here, and his luggage is going in the back, so..." Jinki took a pause.  "The trunk might be comfortable."

The slap was now to his face, and from then on all Jinki did was whine about how his cheek stung and how Kibum was such a prissy little bitch and that he's never giving him a ride when they have time off.  He cooled off by the time they reached the station - two minutes less than what Kibum had predicted - and his face was all smiles when he noticed something.  Kibum had no idea what he was looking at, but he was interested, because he swore that Jinki had just grown a pair of fluffy ears and a tail which was waving wildly in his seat.

Jinki pulled over, grabbed the keys and stumbled out of his door, almost falling face-first into the pavement, but he composed himself and ran, screaming to the crowd, "Jonghyun!"  Kibum took a step out because Jinki's driving can take its toll on people pretty quickly.  He hoped that this Jonghyun person knew this before coming.

Kibum then began his search for Jinki and when he found him, he stopped in his tracks, eyes widening slowly and mouth dropping.  So that was Jonghyun.  Jinki spotted Kibum and waved him over excitedly, and so Kibum slowly made his way, feeling like his feet were moving on their own.

The guy who Jinki so comfortably hugged in public had his eyes on Kibum, interest etched into his stare.

"Hi," Kibum croaked.  Jonghyun flashed a smooth grin and replied just as smoothly, "Hey there."

Jinki then sensed something and his hands twitched.

"You said you weren't intere-" Kibum quickly clamped both hands over Jinki's unusually wide mouth.  Damn, Kibum hated him sometimes.
