Dean was in the bathroom at Bobby's, staring at his face in the mirror and gingerly prodding at a developing bruise.

"Y'know, it would be nice not to be the demon's punching bag next time," he muttered.

"Stop being so interesting to demons," Alec retorted as he entered the bathroom, a ziplock full of ice in one hand and a handtowel in the other. Dean may not have meant it as a conversation starter, but if you didn't want Alec to hear something, you just didn't say it.

"Gotta learn to be less awesome, I guess," Dean joked, taking the ice from Alec gratefully. "Or get better demon repellent."

"Working on it," he said, leaning against the doorframe. "Though we've done pretty well so far."

"Yeah." Dean met Alec's eyes. "Thanks for earlier. You're turning into a pretty damned good hunter already."

"Thanks to Manticore," he said dryly, playing off the sudden gravity of Dean's thanks. "Nice of them to give me this nice, adaptable brain with which to learn things quickly, and then forcing me off to a world where ghosts and ghouls run around freely."

"I'll send them a thank you card," Dean said, replying in kind.

"One of those annoying ones that plays music," Alec suggested.

"I'll send it off as soon as I get back," Dean promised. "So aside from having to help with Winchester exorcisms in the living room, how are you liking it here?"
