I think it's finally time for an update on school last year and my summer, since I'm leaving in 6 days to go back to school.
So, last school year wasn't ideal, but it made me realize how much I love Emory despite all of the disappointments. I didn't make the varsity tennis team, but it gave me the chance to focus on other activities more, and I met some really great people on the JV tennis team. Unfortunately, they cut the JV tennis team this year, so it's back to trying out for varsity this year, but it's going to be tough. Luckily I know a lot of people to play with now including my roommate whose mom is a linesman at tennis tourneys and can get us tickets to really cool pro events. Also, sorority rush didn't work out for me, but I joined APhiO (a co-ed service fraternity) instead, and I met some great people and I'm co-rush chair this year, which will be fun. I might go through sorority rush again this year, but I'm not sure. I also was a tour guide, which was really fun. I also went backpacking and canoing in a swamp with alligators. I had a great roommate and met a lot of great people in my hall this year. It was definitely a rocky year at times, but now I realize how much I love Emory.
This summer started out kind of crappy. I had an internship at a physical therapy place that I didn't really like. Some of the people I worked with were really nice, but others were rude and anal. I learned that physical therapy isn't for me, which was big because I had been certain that I wanted to be a physical therapist for over a year. I always wanted to be a physical therapist specializing in athletes, but I realized that that's very competitive and you have to work your way up there. I just couldn't see dealing on a regular basis with some of the people that we saw in the clinic. So, I've decided to major in either math or math/econ and just see where it takes me. Hopefully, I'll have a more relaxing year, since I won't have to take any lab sciences. After my 5 week internship I was supposed to teach tennis at a club I belong to, but I found out a few days before that since I'm a member I can't work there. Luckily, I wound up getting a job at another club of mine that started as only a week thing and became a 7 week job. It was a great job, but it made for long days when I had to go to summer school two nights a week. My American Politics class was in summer school was extremely easy though. After summer school and work ended I went to Tahoe for a week with my family where I wound up teaching tennis and making some money, and I just relaxed and played tennis. So, now I have this week to relax, play some tennis, and get ready to head back to school. I can't wait to head back, since I've been home since the beginning of May. The summer has definitely flown by though.
Goals for this year:
Relax a little more this year and make time to use some of the facilities I didn't get to use last year (like the Clairmont pool)
Get a better idea of possible careers
Take a wider variety of classes
Stay involved in sports if I don't make varsity
Take advantage of having a car
Keep my room more organized
Play tennis competitively somehow
Meet more people in my classes
Go to clubs and parties more
