Hotlanta

So I'm in Atlanta now. It's so weird. I thought I was prepared for this and in ways I am, yet it's so surreal. I feel ready academically and I was fine saying bye to everyone, but now that I'm here I can't believe that I won't be home for about 4 months. My family keeps talking about how Atlanta seems so boring and I definitely know it's not the BEST town, but I chose Emory because I loved the school and the campus. I'm sure they'll be plenty to do here. I can't wait to move into my dorm and to go on my outdoor canoeing/camping trip. Then i'll really feel like I'm at college. Tomorrow I have to go shopping and get all of my sheets, organizing stuff, etc. I can't believe I'll be living here....a 4.5 hour plane flight away. the flight actually wasn't too bad, but I'm still so far away. I can't just drive home whenever I want. Today a bunch of people sitting at the table next to my family started talking with Southern accents and I just started cracking up....it's SOOOOOO different here. And the weather....how odd. It's hot but not unbearble, but because of the humidty the air feels so heavy. All of the buildings are so heavily air conditioned--I feel like I'm in Reoutt's classroom all over again. It's annoying because you'll be outside and be kind of hot and then you go inside and you're freezing. At dinner I was so cold and then we walk outside and 8:30 and the temperature was so nice. It's nice to have warm nights. On top of it there are a ton of thunderstorms here. It was partly cloudy (and very hazy) this afternoon when we got in around 3, but when we went to dinner around 7 it was raining pretty hard, but was still really warm. It's weird having rain when it's like 80 degrees outside. Then we got to the restaurant and it was only drizzling lightly. During dinner we started seeing flashes of lightning and loud thunder, but then it went away after about 45 minutes. The weather changes so much. This is definitely going to be an experience for me, but I'm really excited. I don't think I'm going to have trouble getting used to east coast time because I only slept from 1-5 last night/this morning because we had a 7am flight...I am soooo tired. Well, I'll keep you guys up to date on how things are going in lovely hotlanta.
