Wow, I haven't posted for days. I just haven't felt like writing
the usual, "I work! I'm sick again!" message, even though I have
been working, and I am still sick (though now on massive amounts of
drugs!). Can you believe I got pink eye? How I managed
that, being a compulsive hand washer, I have no idea. But
anyways, enough about my
contagious self. I ran accross a poem my
Aunt Linda sent me in a letter she wrote me when I graduated from high
school. You should all read it, because it's awesome:
Invictus
By William Ernest Henley; 1849-1903
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
This fits my mood today. So I'm going to sit and be the captain
of my soul... and knit... more hats! And try not to spread the
plague! Everyone should post their favorite poem, just because I
demand it. Besides, I am in quarantine and it'd be fun to hear
from everyone since I can't go see anyone! So post!
