man, booking is frustrating. DIY is frustrating....but very rewarding when things work out, cause you step back and say, "man...i did that!" i wonder how many DIY bands get feeler e-mails from major label a&r every 6 months or so. probably tons. stupid a&r. next one we get, our response is going to be, "yes, here is our record, if you want to see us here is how: FLY US TO NYC/LA, PUT US UP IN A HOTEL, GIVE US LOTS OF BEER, LIQUOR, AND OTHER ITEMS, AND THEN THE NEXT DAY WE WILL PLAY A SHOWCASE FOR YOU. NOT A SHOW. A SHOWCASE. FOR YOUR LABEL. thank you bye."
but still, i have dreams every week about being on tour. the last one, we were opening for some ridiculous large band, maybe flaming lips, maybe modest mouse, i don't know. but there were whole tables full of avocado sandwiches for us. they had fuckin' pesto, and grilled onions, and red peppers on them. and some spread. and i just kept looking from table to table, trying to decide the happy medium of how many to eat so that i could still play a great show.
i still really think crafty is the best songwriter i've ever met, so i wish things would pan out, and i wish that people would take me seriously when i email them about a show. JUST BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE AN AGENT, DOESN'T MEAN WE'RE NOT GOOD. sheesh. gotta have a middleman for everything nowadays.
oh well. ugly magic is almost done, and then it will be out. most days i think about quitting my job and skipping town just so i can go record.
