Well, folks, I'm back.

I've avoided updating until I could offer picspam, and now that I've uploaded a few of my favorite pictures, I can.

Cape Town's Table Mountain, as seen from the courtyard of our hostel. If you're looking for scenic pictures of Table Mountain, I ain't got 'em.

Undoubtedly my favorite image from Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners were held. The story's fairly long, but basically this pile of rocks was made by former political prisoners in the limestone quarry where they were forced to work, symbolizing the end of apartheid.

The story for this is so much simpler: OMG PENGUIIIIINS. ^______^

The beach at the Cape of Good Hope. Hard to believe it's so dangerous around there, isn't it?

The picspam wouldn't be complete if there wasn't a picture of me and Megan with our brand-spanking-new lip rings. Ignore my hair, please.

Habitat for Humanity: House 5 build site, day 1.

A bunch of kids from the township during our build, and Kelsie. Can you guess which one is Kelsie?

The township-- apparently getting pictures there is discouraged, so I was lucky to have this shot.

Our workers, putting on the roof beams. You can see the evidences of a cape storm in the sky above them.

House 5, end of day 4.

Welcome to the Grahamstown Theatre Festival! This is one of the local kids busking as a mime.

Safari-- our group of little travellers, taken by our guide, Gary.

This elephant was SO AWESOME. She stood in front of our van and posed for like three minutes. She was a little movie star.

Our open vehicle in the game park. That's me in the back in the pink and blue coat.

I love this rhino. Gary said his name was Jim-Bob and he was "anti-anything about his size," up to and including our Land Rover-- he had tried to gore it before, when it was left unattended.

Zebra! And some sort of antelope or kudu in the far background.

Seeing the giraffes sort of pop their heads out of the trees was so cool.

African sunset.

We went to a big cat zoo. This is me with a male bengal tiger, I think that's what he was-- anyway. This is mostly here just because I'm vain and I like the picture.

Papa Lion has his lunch. Watching the big cats eat was so cool.

Up close and personal with snakes and other reptiles, that afternoon. This is my friend Elizabeth. I forget the species of the snake (green house snake?), but she just looks so damn happy. She's adorable.

Speaking of adorable. Alex with a baby monitor lizard. I can't get over how cozy they both look.

AFRICAN ROCK PYTHON. :D Man, that thing was so freaking heavy.

I have no idea what you're talking about, so here is a picture of me with an owl on my head.

The Broad-Shouldered Contingent's favorite activity in the back of the bus.

Now for a part of the trip I'd like to describe as "Marika Takes Pictures of Amusing Signs".

africa, snakes on a motherfuckin' me, picspam
