The only downside is, now I'm shedding.

I got my hair cut today. I was just going for something short, but "Back and sides short, top long and spiky" apparently translates to "Make me look like Mikey Way, please" in the stylist's book. It's fairly cute, actually, and the stylist had to go to a meeting but asked me to come back so she could dye red streaks in it. Yes yes, pictures are forthcoming-- in, say, like 14 days.

I slept 13 hours last night, which got rid of the most of my sickliness from yesterday, and I got to have bacon and eggs for lunch today. If I haven't mentioned it before, South African bacon is incredible. It's some of the best bacon ever invented, if not the best. Mmm. I'm suddenly glad I stopped being a vegetarian.

Today marked day 1 of souvenir-buying: an Ethiopian knife for my brother. In case it's not been mentioned before, my older brother collects weaponry, both reconstructed and authentic. This is authentic, but purely decorative at this point as I doubt it could hold up in combat and it doesn't look too clean so using it for utilitarian purposes is almost a definite no-no.

Lip ring bled a little this morning. It appears to do this entirely when it's not even the slightest bit tender-feeling and just feels like part of my natural lip. What the fuck, body.

Cannot believe I'm over halfway done with this trip. So happy about that. I definitely love places and parts here, and I'm looking forward to Grahamstown (theatre!) and safari (baby lions! ostrich-riding!) but I am ready to get back to America.

So far I've been thinking very much of a few people I love, and today I feel very close to them (unlike last week, where I felt sort of frantic and was wondering where everyone was). This makes this a good day.

africa, in transit, prezzies, body modification, so vain this post is about me
