I'm nineteen today, guys.
I started the day off calling my parents, on a day that was still the 18th for them-- it shouldn't be anymore anywhere in the U.S., if I've calculated right. I got birthday wishes and general updates from all of them (Constance is doing fine, and appears to be missing me). Nat and Eleya say hi, too, which makes me happy. Not that I was really concerned with whether my brother's girlfriend said hello and happy birthday or not, but it was still nice. I told Dad about my lip ring and he said "You got what pierced? You got your lip pierced? You got your lip pierced? L-I-P-S?" He then proceeded to go very quiet for about a minute and a half. Then he said "Oh, cool." I made him promise not to tell Mom, because I want to tell her myself, at least.
Most of the people actually remembered it was my birthday and said happy birthday before breakfast, which was very nice. It's not going to be a day of gifts and partying, but maybe I can have a vanilla latte with someone (at the Seattle Coffee Company, hah) and have a nice chat, and maybe buy a book for the bus ride to Stellenbosch within the next few days, and that will be festive enough for me. (Did I mention that Dad said he would buy me a tattoo for my birthday at the end of the summer, and get one with me at the same time? What am I going to get? Obviously I can't get the Sappho poem on my left breast now...)
We're doing Parliamentary activities today, and free time-- I have about half an hour before I have to go and be Parliamentary, however I'm doing that and whatever we're doing in it. Yesterday was the District 6 Museum and an option to go to the Holocaust Museum, which I didn't take because honestly the possibility scares me more than a little. Apparently it was quite peaceful, however, so I may need to go when we come back to Cape Town in three weeks.
I miss
you guys all terribly, and all of you should e-mail me.
And hey, since it's my birthday--
