The ocean swells beneath us
With the rising of the moon
And we're stuck somewhere between
A bit too late and much too soon
And I'm floating there aware
That every step I take toward you
Is one more away from me being
Anything I thought that I could be

It's just like falling when you're floating
And you don't know where you're going
And the only thing you know is
Don't look back; you've gone too far
And so I'm stopping on the shoulder
And I'm pulling out the map
'Cause I'm not wise enough to follow
When all the headlights look like stars

It was always such a bastard notion
Of mine to find a story-book romance
And it got me into more that I was worth
And less than any second chance
So if you're through complaining
I've learned my lesson and I'll go
And this time hitch a ride with Jupiter
Sit back and let it flow
