Because Everyone Needs To Know My TV Watching Habits...

Sorry I haven't been around much this year so far. One of my resolutions was to try watching new tv shows, rather than just vegging in front of repeats of the same old stuff, so I've just marathoned the first two seasons of Ugly Betty and now I'm working my way through Supernatural (yes, I'd never seen either, I am somewhat behind the times). Yeah, it's difficult to miss the Supernatural fandom, and the accompanying Wincest stuff, but I'm actually being careful to watch it without my shipping goggles on - gonna wait until I rewatch it to let my imagination run wild. ;D

But, yes, it's really good, really entertaining. I'm gonna admit straight up, any show that deals with anything vaguely supernatural automatically gets compared to Buffy. I can't help it. And there are echoes there, with the episodes often dealing with a different monster/demon/spirit/haunted toaster of the week (maybe not that last one), while there's a Big Bad that runs along in the background, but other than that I'm not really being reminded of Buffy all that much, which is refreshing. Actually, it reminds me of what made the early seasons of The X-Files so watchable. The brothers travel constantly, which means new and interesting side characters every week as well as monsters, they have an awesome chemistry which means fun sibling bickering, the bad stuff and the way they deal with the bad stuff is inventive and, as pointed out below, often not the normal evil used in these kinds of shows and films, and I don't think there's been a single episode where I haven't both wanted to hide behind my hands at the horror and laugh out loud at the comedy, when a lot of horror shows get those reactions mixed up. So, yes, it gets the Salmon stamp of approval.
