you say you love day but you come out at night

So Splendour is over and done for this year. I feel that without making a LJ post about it i can't get any closure. So here goes:

On Friday afternoon Ellen and I came back from school camp. School camp was pretty much awesome. Highlights were; Listening to Lil' Jon and The East Syd Boiz featuring Yin Yang Twins and getting crunk with all the other yr. 11 CHAC kids, the 'garbage bag semi-formal' (Pirate-themed, may i add) and sitting on the grass with Ellen, Grace and Phoebe whilst eating stolen country lemons and eating some flowers that, according to Linny, were good for allergies (They tasted good too).

So anywho, back onto Splendour.
Friday afternoon we arrived back at School after camp. Rob and Anthea were waiting. Neil (mah brudda) was supposed to arrive at 3 with my Splendour bag to switch over with my camp bag. He arrived late and my family had forgotten to photocopy my birth certificate. This caused a bit of a stir. Rob, Anthea and Ellen followed us back to the house where my Great-Aunt Val had my photocopied birth certificate ready to give me. I was rather upset/stressed about the whole thing and ended up getting a nose bleed :( yargh. So after that little shananigan we were on our way (after a toi toi stop for Elle).

The trip down was fab. Listened to great music, exchanged fun anecdotes - all things neccesary for a super great trip. The traffic down wasn't even too bad. So we arrived at our unit type thing, unpacked and greeted the others. 'The others' were all quite rad. One was particularly rad. by rad i mean FKN HAWT!. Ellen and i got to share a room with him. Think Guy Berryman and Fabrizio Moretti made a baby and this was the result. *wet*

so anyways, Saturday.
Saturday. yes. after we all woke up we headed in on the bus to Splendoursaurus-rex. Wasted about 20 minutes in the merch line to finally decide that i couldn't be arsed waiting. Headed into the Super top to see Dungen. They seemed quite cool and fun from what i saw. i totes dug that hair. After Dungen we saw Youth Group. I had saw them at BDO earlier this year. I wasn't really blown away nor disghusted by their performance. It was pass-able. Forever Young was quite good. Following Youth Group was Death Cab For Cutie, I pretty much only wanted to see We Looked Like Giants. We left about halfway through their set to see Mos Def. I was later informed that Death Cab For Cutie played We Looked Like Giants about 3rd last. I don't regret leaving that much, at all, though. Mos Def fucking went OFF! Post- Mos Def we met up with the other kids (Maddy, Gel, Laura, Dee, Piggy, Andy and Blythe). I then bought a YYYs shirt. Ellen went back with Rob and Anthea and da olda kids and i continued on with the youngins. We spent a while looking around the markets and shite, then we split up. Laura, Maddy, Andy, Piggy and I went to see Mogwai and the others went somewhere else. Mogwai fucking blew me away (OMG SO LOUD AND AWESOME). The music felt like it was just dripping down your body. Then Augie March followed. They were fucking great for all the shit that happened - guitar string snapping and fuckups with the guitar. Then Anita, Nick, Ellen, Bron and I all headed back to the house. The others hung around for DJ Shadow. I sort of regret not at least watching a little bit of Sonic Youth. I'm not really a fan but i would at least like to be able to say i have seen them before. but oh fuck - i was so tired. I think Ellen and i both pretty much crashed straight away on Saturday night.

Sooooondi.
Ellen and I headed off before everyone else. We planned on getting there about halway through Butterfingers (who were totally ew) and to start to move our way up for Yeah Yeah Yeahs that night. As I said, Butterfingers were quite the poo (not that i was expecting anything spesh). After Butterfingers we made a heap of ground and were about 15 people from the front for The Zutons. The Zutons were so much fucking fun. I've never really been a huge fan but they put on such a great show. The Mystery Act followed. We had received word earlier that The Vines were the Myster act. Everyone around us in the mosh was all 'Aw man, datz da gayest roomar evar! dey dnt plai showz neMore, ya gay cuntz!'. It turned out (as usual) we were right. There was a degree of superiority surrounding me after that. The mosh for The Vines was a little chaotic to say the least, though our position didn't really work to our advantage. The mosh had ruffled our feathers quite a bit, we needed water and we needed out. We moved back and out of the tent. I nipped over to Matisyahu for a little bit. I danced with myself for 10 minutes, then headed back in to the Supertop for Snow Patrol with Ellen. Snow Patrol were very enjoyable. After Snow Patrol, the ground we made was fucking amazing. You Am I came on afterwards. I quite enjoyed their set. I hadn't heard them before and I wouldn't go and buy an album now but they were definately very entertaining. The crow for You Am I seemed to be quite gentle for their rather loud, energetic performance. It was good, there was a large amount of room to move around but they came to an end and next was the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Unfortunately, Wolfmother were to follow Yeah Yeah Yeahs - this resulted in the rather calm mosh turn into a whole heap of "'F'ed in the 'A' " shit. It was so fucking tight. Ellen got out. I stayed in. I made friends with a group of lesbians and gay boys who were up just to see Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I got along best with a girl names Mary-Anna (or Marion) and a guy named Steven best. They were really nice and protected me :) Yeah  Yeah Yeahs were great. Though because of the crowd there was something so disconnected about it. It was a little dissappointing. Though they played a fantastic set list. I was happy with that. Even after Yeah Yeah Yeahs it was really fucking difficult to get out. It was crazy. i almost tripped over a tent peg and ropes and shit so at one point Steven just lifted me up and carried me out to the eating area with all the wee restaurants and food places. Then I found Ellen, i went and got a vegetable samosa and we met the fucking coolest people from Canberra. They were so awesome. I really want to track them down - we were joking about how fabulous myspace was, so i hope we find eachother. After a long gap, we met up with some others of the youngins (Andy, Piggy, Blythe, Maddy and Gel). We headed over to see Scissor Sisters. It was so fucking packed it was rediculous, we couldn't even get into the tent to see them, which i thought was incredibly shit. After a little while it was just Ellen, Andy and I. Andy and i were going to go raving in the crazy Tipi Forest, it didn't eventuate. We met back up with Ellen, Rob, Anthea and the other older kids at the back of Brian Wilson. Possibly one of the best performances ever. The whole crowd loved it.

Then we walked back to the house. Sam is so fucking hot. With Duncan's help i made some chicken noodles, they were tasty. Anthea bought these tasty icy-pole-esque things. they were fucking sick, bro. we ate them.

Monday morning i woke up at 11. We went and got breakfast. The service was horrendous, i thought and the cutlery was dirty - that's not that kind of shit that goes down at t'Bend, i tells yah!  Though, Into My Arms (by Nick Cave) came on and we had a full table sing-a-long. It was a bit fabulous. We headed off for home around 2:30pm. We didn't get home until about 7:30 due to the fact we were stuck in the Bermuda Triangle of northern New South Wales - a town known as Murwillimbuh (that is not the right spelling, don't quote me plz).

The trip home was much fun. Filled with 'ya mum' calls and starbust lollies.

Goodbye Mr. Splendour, i shall see you again next year, hopefully.

edit: so fucking sorry. for some reason i can't get my LJ cuts to work. i'm sorry if this is taking up a fuckload of space on yo' pages. but you dig it. xx
