Jane Austen Smackdown

Jan 10, 2007 12:16

In my office at work, I have action figures. You can probably guess what kinds.

One is a Jane Austen action figure, sent to me by stephanieburgis and psamphire. A couple of days ago, my Jane went up against the secretary's Mark Twain at the front desk. Yesterday I came in and the secretary's Jane Austen was stabbing my Jane in the neck with a quill pen. This ( Read more... )

Head tentacles!

I was wondering what you were going to do about a website. You'll definitely be needing one.

I just love the word tentacles. I often amuse myself, while at work, by muttering, "tentaclestentaclestentacles."

The google website tool seems pretty simple and easy; I made a site in a couple of hours. Jenn's just tracking down a sarah-prineas domain name and using some magical rite of transference to get my google-created page to appear there.

You used to own sarahprineas.com, right? And some schmoe came along and squatted on it when it expired?

Sometimes I think of getting gregvaneekhout.com for that very reason, though it's unlikely I'd ever use it, since it's nigh impossible to spell.

Yes, that's right. Stupid shmoe. What does it mean, that somebody squatted on it? Does it mean I'd have to buy it off them for more money than sarah-prineas would cost? Last night I tried to track down who 'owned' that old URL, but couldn't come up with anything. You'd think they'd want to make it easier for me to actually buy it if I wanted it...

I have a hard time understanding the psychology or business model of an entity that buys up the domains of non-famous people (non-famous yet), so who knows what they'd charge. And, yeah, you'd think they would try to make it easier to track down. I dunno much about this stuff, but the owner is using a company called pool.com to park sarahprineas.com, so maybe you could find out some info by emailing someone at pool.com?

In any case, sarahprineas.com becomes available again this August, so maybe you could reacquire it then. Until then, it might be worth it to get sarahprineas.net (currently available) in addition to sarah-prineas.com.

This conversation made me curious, so I looked and found out that heathershaw.com would cost me $388. !! It's really frustrating that these jerks would sit on something like my *name*. Gah.

I want to be a Nielsen family!

Sarah, when are you going to post about your other news? Hm? I'm tapping my foot here impatiently! Lookit me tap!

Three hundred eighty eight bucks! Sheesh.

The other news... (tap, tap, tap)

...soon, I hope!

It's also possible that your new publishing house can apply pressure to the squatters and get them to release the name. That's how it used to work, so schmoes couldn't come along and do this sort of thing.

You'll like this: I just sold a micro-poem called "Tentacular Bliss." Silly, erotic SF.

Can't wait to see the new website.
