John and I got married the summer he graduated from college. The omens were not good: a hurricane hit my hometown and we had no power or water in the house, with 18 guests, for a week, and my mom had to bribe a power crew to come down our rural road to fix the powerlines for the wedding reception. The day after the wedding, I lost my engagement ring and wedding ring while windsurfing. Three days after the wedding, we got on a Greyhound bus; I rode the dawg to Madison and John went all the way to Minneapolis because we'd gotten into different graduate schools.
But here we are, still married. Fifteen years today. To celebrate, we will have lunch at the Linn Street Cafe today, and we will go see Greg Brown at the Englert on Saturday.
Also, during the past two days I've written 6500 words on the second novel. Phew.
