But was it MURDER?

To celebrate the College of Engineering changing its name to Cockrell School of Engineering, there was a reception/dinner thing tonight at the Four Seasons. It put every semi-fancy event I've attended at the UT Alumni Center to shame. Hotels are shiny. :)

~ People in attendance were Cockrell family members (rich people), Cockrell Foundation directors (old and rich people), present/former College of Engineering deans and associate deans (old people), department chairs and professors who are endowed by the Cockrell Foundation (more old people), various other big donors to the College of Engineering (old and rich people), and, like, 10 students who are o.O-ed and :/-ed from being surrounded/squished by old and rich people.

~ I was surprised at the lack of student attendance. I assume they invited all the Cockrell scholarship and fellowship recipients (or at least the junior/seniors), which should be at least 100 people. Was no one interested in free food at the Four Seasons?

~ Patt was wearing appropriate clothing! Sort of. He was wearing a suit jacket at least, even if it was brown and casual-looking and did not match his pants. Before he arrived, we had a debate about whether he'll show up in jean shorts.

~ I guess they didn't realize there were undergraduates there? Or did not care? Because the servers were freely offering alcohol to everyone.

~ Observation: All the men were wearing suits. The women wearing business casual were invited. The women wearing cocktail attire were brought as guests by their husbands.

~ Yay lots of "The Cockrell family are the bestest people ever!" went on. We were talking to Ambler afterwards, and he was bitching about the frequency of standing ovations. Lol. There were two tables that really loved to stand up whenever applause was going on, and if they stood up, everyone else had to stand too.

~ Most hilarious moment of the night: all the old and rich people stand up and make the devil horns sign and sing "The Eyes of Texas", lead a capella by one of the Cockrell granddaughters. They printed the lyrics in the program, which made me realize what a creepy stalker song it actually is, all "The Eyes of Texas are watching you forever and ever and you can never escape even if you try."
