It's a British mini-series post!

I finally watched the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice - the much hyped gold standard of adaptations - and even though I enjoyed it...I think I actually like the Keira Knightly version better? It’s probably because people tend to prefer whichever version they saw first, but methinks the real reason is closer to the fact that Sally is lowbrow and likes melodrama. Yelling in the rain > having the same argument with polite restraint and/or soliloquizing* a letter. Also:
1) The mother's voice is annoying as hell.
2) Why are there random gratuitous scenes of Darcy taking a bath?
3) OMG Cicero is in it! Yay Cicero!
4) OMG Lucy Davis is in it! Yay Lucy Davis!
5) Colin Firth plays the exact same character the exact same way in all of his movies.**

The Forsyte Saga, on the other hand, is so amazing (read: adequately soapy pour moi). Like always, I hate the obviously good and perfect and kind hero/heroine and love the antagonist/anti-hero with ambiguous morals. Belated rant:
1) Jolyon? Is the biggest hypocrite ever. Dude, Soames actually works for a living, unlike you who pretty much lived off of your father’s money for your entire life, even during the years when you were nominally “cut off.” So stop whining about the other side of the family coasting on their wealth and influence. You are the last person to have a right to judge them. [/ranting at fictional characters]
2) I <3 you, Soames! Even though you are an unrepentant rapist, you are the first unrepentant rapist to make me cry.*** Buckets. During multiple scenes.
3) My mom’s getting annoyed at me for my slew of period dramas because she thinks they’re all retarded. Me: “But you’re not the one watching it. Why do you care?” Her: “Because you shouldn’t watch stupid things either.” Me: “Wtf?”

Finally, has anyone seen I, Claudius? Is it worth watching? On one hand, I don't want to watch stuff from the 70s filmed like a stage play. On the other, it's also a much hyped gold standard of something or other, and I’m on withdrawal until the 2nd season Rome DVDs come out.

* I was surprised Firefox didn't go red squiggly on me. I totally made that conjugation up.
** I first saw Colin Firth in What A Girl Wants...um...yeah...draw your own conclusions. :P
*** That sounds wrong.
