100 Things That Still Make Being Me Just That Bit Better... 73

Comfort food

... just like everyone else in the world, yes? They may all be different, but we all have those foods - not necessarily those you'd feed to guests (or anyone else), not even necessarily normal favourites, and not surprisingly very often laced more with nostalgia than epicurean excellence - that we do so reach for when we feel needy.

When I'm sick, I lean on the same ones heavily every time - and yep, they're my family's brand of nursery food. Things like jelly and cold homemade custard (when even water hurts, cold custard... doesn't), cauliflower cheese, bread pudding, baked and mushed up apples, tinned Big Red Tomato soup... and HappyLittleVegemite Sammiches.

Comfort food for the miserable times? Chocolate-covered coffee beans by the fistful. Pretty much anything with way too much sugar. Cheese and tomoatoes and pickles. And the HappyLittleVegemite Sammiches again (Vegemite soothes the inner and unhappy six-year old Australian like nothing else on earth, really)

Oh, and Christmas isn't Christmas for me without scrambled eggs flavoured with Keen's curry powder for breakfast. Trust me, it might give your average foodie palpitations just to think about it, but for me... it's the way to my heart.
